I remember eating jerk chicken from street venders in Jamaica and it was always awesome, I have tried the rubs and sauces available here in my small town and even some home recipes but none of them capture the real taste. Does anyone know where I can buy online some or at a major market brand?

If you want to use store bought then WalkersWood Traditional Jamaican Jerk Seasoning or Marinade is probably the closest to the real thing.

Below is a link to one site that sells it =) but you should be able to find it in a Caribbean food store also.

Generally speaking: if its authentic flavor you're looking for, and you crave the stuff from the streets of Jamaica, you really need to make your own stuff. You'll just feel cheated otherwise. You'll be surprised at how much of this stuff you already have in your spice cabinet.

I use this and it brings down the house everytime I BBQ. Remember to use dark meat such as thighs and wings and marinate overnight for the best moist flavor.

1 tbsp Allspice
8 Scotch Bonnet Peppers (Habanero)
1 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp ground ginger
1 1/2 tsp black pepper
1 1/2 tsp ground sage
3/4 tsp nutmeg
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tbsp salt
6 cloves finely minced garlic
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
juice of 1 lemon and 1 lime
1 large yellow onion
4 green onions

Pulse in a food processor until pureed! Easy!

None of the recipes posted above are as good as WalkersWood. I've been to and from Jamaica many times and WalkersWood is the closest you'll find to authentic. It's also the oldest brand of jerk sauce available.

I agree... WalkersWood is the best! Below is their web page link and phone number. Here is also an excellent recipe I use all the time and it's very close to traditional Jamican Jerk.

Jerk Chicken

¼ c. whole allspice
1 1” cinnamon stick, broken
1 c. red onion, chopped
½ c. green onions, chopped
¼ c. dark rum
1 Tbs. sugar
1 tsp. dried thyme
3 Tbs. peeled fresh ginger, grated
3 Tbs. fresh lime juice
2 Tbs. Worchestershire sauce
1 Tbs. soy sauce
1 tsp. fresh nutmeg, grated
4 Habanero or Scotch bonnet peppers, seeded and chopped
3 cloves garlic, chopped
2 skinless half chicken breasts
2 chicken leg quarters, skinned
¼ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. black pepper
1 Tbs. vegetable oil

Cook allspice and cinnamon in a medium skillet over medium heat for 5 minutes or until toasted. Place in a coffee grinder and process until finely ground.
In a blander, add all ingredients (12) to chopped garlic,
with allspice mixture and blend for 2 minutes until smooth.
Sprinkle chicken with salt and pepper. Place chicken in a
ziplock bag with the spice mixture; seal and marinate 4 hours or over night in a refrigerator, turning occasionally. Remove chicken and discard marinade.
Heat oil in a 10” or 12” Dutch oven over high heat. Add
chicken, cook 2 minutes until browned, turn chicken over. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes at 400o until chicken is cooked through.
Serves 2 hungry adults or 4 smaller appetites

Well as a Jamaican I dont make my own, I purchase the bottled ones. Grace and Walkerswood is a good brand, there is also Eatons Jerk Seasoning.

if you want a dry rub try the Maggi Chicken Delights Jerk Seasoning Mix.
