If you have a health condition it is best to talk it over with your doctor. They can advise you on what kind of impact the air quality will have on you specific kind of condition. I know that some pople can tolerate the air and others can't.

All of LA is not smoggy and yes, it is a very healthy place to live, lots of fresh air, outdoor activities. I had allergies before I moved here, now no problems. But, everyone is different. So, like the other reviewer said, best work with your doctor.

LA has done more than most cities to control smog. It is not the problem it was many years ago. You would be surprised more cities than LA have smog alert days...like in Oklahoma of all places.

The farther you go east the more smog there will be. The areas closer to the beach and west LA have clearer air, they look hazy but it is the ocean mist that creates this, not dirty air or smog.

Also, the smog is primarily in the summer when the air sits.

Take care of yourself.

I have heard there is more asthma here because of the pollution, especially around the industrial areas and the inland empire.

If you live here, either consider very close to the beach or the Santa Clarita/Antelope valley area.

As for allergies, it depends on what you are allergic too. We don't have a big problem with hay fever-type pollen because it's so dry. But when the Santa Ana's pick up, it can aggravate some people's allergies.

Invest in a good air purifier and humidifier.

The air is pretty funky here. Lots of kids that are born close to the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles have asthma. The schools around there have air monitors to see if they can let the kids out at recess or not.
I have allergies and have to take medicine everyday or I can't breath. Maybe you'll be lucky and not be allergic to whatever is floating in the air.

If one has trouble breathing in the first place, why aggravate it with lesser-quality air?

No, because the air is bad, so you should be in the country.
