is it wrong to have a karate belt display rack, as this is seen as a prideful act?

I think it depends on where you display it. In the privacy of your room is fine. Putting it in your living room or kitchen for all to see is just pompous. Kids don't know anything about arrogance, really- to them it's a show of accomplishment, as it should be. For adults it's a bit iffy, but I still think it's better to take care of your old belts this way than to stuff them in a box and let them collect dust for years. You work too hard for them to treat them like that.

I'm not familiar with any belt displays that do what you want. I needed a belt display some years ago for my dojo. i built a 2' wide by 4' tall box with a 1/4" plywood back and 1"X4" sides. I used two vertical lines of screw-eyes. then I slid a 3/8" dowel down each line of screw eyes. that gave me a place to tie each color belt. Once finished I made a cover of plexi-glass to keep dust out. I used the box for about 12 years. It was only when I closed the commercial dojo that I quit using it. Hope this gives you some ideas!

most old-school practitioners would say if you displayed your belts on a rack somewhere obvious & open (say, your living room), then yes, but if the belt rack is for private function to keep your belts in order, then no.

Belts can train some others and proceed in the never ending cycle of strengthening ones education.

In a rack? yes, but if it's framed in glass and hung in your wall like a diploma, then you can be forgiven as most people will assume your mom put it there : P

No, it is not. It is wrong to display your karate skills without justification, however.

Dear Serenamorris_70:

No. I don't think this is a bad thing, unless your totally against fighting. If you love it-why hide it right ? I hope this helped!

Sincerely,
