Life’s experiences sometimes rub us the wrong way. When something happens that contradicts our sense of ‘what ought to be’ regarding our view of right or wrong, good and bad, it can make us pretty unhappy and affect our outlook on life. Unfulfilled wishes and desires are another have much the same effect.
Through our dreams, the subconscious mind tries to provide us with just the right dream at just the right time, to compensate for the many things that cause our peace of mind to get out of balance.
If we have fears, it tries to feed us those fears little by little in coded dreams to help us overcome them. Occasionally it uses the brute force of a nightmare to get its point across.
If we have unfulfilled desires it may provide us with a substitute to alleviate the sense of lacking.
Some of these dreams are pretty straight forward and at other times they are embedded in deeply symbolic presentations taken from our own memory bank of experiences. To solve the riddle of our dreams we need to sort out the feelings, meanings, and the memories of what all these symbols mean to us from our experience.

I had a dream once in which I was clinging to a cliff with a bad overhang. I was going to fall to my death because the overhang was giving way. I had to hurry and pull myself over the overhang. But when I hurried, it only crumbled more quickly. Finally, I literally used my finger nails to slowly, but efficiently, 'pull' myself up over the cliff ledge. This then turned into another part of the dream that involved a flood and escaping in a tiny car from dangerous people who wanted to intimidate me. I was learning the meaning of reduction and non-attachment. Prior to this I was petrified of all loss.

Earlier I had dreamed of a very high out-of-body flight. I flew so high I could no longer see the Earth. The vertigo was awesome. I learned to let go and let gravity return me slowly to theground. But then I found myself clinging to the edge of the high cliff.

It took a long time to interpret this dream. But in fact my whole life was precarious at that time with huge ups and downs. I realized it was important not to move suddenly or abruptly. I had to be delicate, alert, sensitive, and very cautious. I also had to use skill to get up over the cliff. Impatience and crudeness were not going to work.

If you fall off the cliff and wake up before hitting the ground I think it's a warning that you are not being alert and careful enough mentally and emotionally in specific aspects of your adaptation. I think it means you must improve your adaptive skills; your alertness; and your ability to judge difficult and dangerous situations.

They are wake-up calls to improve alertness and acknowledge various forms of danger. They indicate that your system is seeking and wants balance between high and low. My dream was warning me of something, but I was not cautious enough and suffered major loss in a couple of catgories a few months later. The losses turned out to be good in the end because they led to significant change. At the time they were traumatic. But I look back now in awe because in the end things went in unexpected but great directions.

Try to stay alert and improve your ability to sense what's coming. These dreams do not have to be just baad or ominous. But they should be taken seriously. Then your skill improves.

We all experience this before .Your body is starting to relax and something triggers you awake suddenly the feeling of faling asleep similar to a physical sense of falling. People talk about how they always wake up before they hit the ground. People always wake up before they dream they hit the ground, and some people speculate if you don't wake up you'll die.

Could be the old cliche a "fallen woman" or your body is in a strange position and is cutting off circulation somewhere so to wake yourself up you have a night mare that you are falling to startle yourself awake.

It is said if you see yourself falling and hitting, your life is over and you will soon die. Most of the time I jump awake and sometime don't remember why. Dreams are strange you have to see what is around you to know what it is trying to tell you.

I don't know if you have faith in God or not, falling only in air without touching any part of the cliff/mountain is related to sins. Touching the parts (not in only air) means deception in some thing or fail in some thing (exam)/ambition

You feel helpless about something. Conquer that problem and the dream will go away.
