Assalam-O-Alykom
May Allah make your relative get better...Amen...
All Muslims shoudl have the faith of that Allah only the one who decide when our lives will be taken and the life support doesn't conflict with this fact.
An example of this in Qurran regarding the debate happened between Ibrahim (PBUH) and Namrod Allah said (interpretation of the Meaning):
[2:258] "Have you not looked at him who disputed with Ibrâhîm (Abraham) about his Lord (Allâh), because Allâh had given him the kingdom? When Ibrâhîm (Abraham) said (to him): "My Lord (Allâh) is He Who gives life and causes death." He said, "I give life and cause death." Ibrâhîm (Abraham) said, "Verily! Allâh causes the sun to rise from the east; then cause it you to rise from the west." So the disbeliever was utterly defeated. And Allâh guides not the people, who are Zâlimûn (wrongdoers.)".
I really have no answer since I do not have the required knowledge to answer this question and for those who answering without knowledge issuing fatwas without being qualified to do so is a grave sin, and means that one is speaking without knowledge. Allaah has warned us against that, when He said (interpretation of the meaning):
“And say not concerning that which your tongues put forth falsely: “This is lawful and this is forbidden,” so as to invent lies against Allaah. Verily, those who invent lies against Allaah will never prosper.” [al-Nahl 16:116].
In a hadeeth: “Whoever was given a fatwaa with no proof, his sin will go back on the one who gave him the fatwaa.”
I found this Fatwa it will help you to decide:
Question:
Many doctors hesitate to decide the right time to turn off the life support systems of a person who is clinically dead. The doctor has two conflicting feelings: he may think that he is prolonging the agony of the dying person, and that if he turns of fthe life support system, he will be giving the person the relief of dying. On the other hand, however, he fears that by turning the life support systems off, he is depriving the person of the opportunity to continue living. When is it permissible to turn off the life support systems in the case of people who are clinically dead?
Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.
In sharee’ah, a person is considered to be dead and therefore subject to all the rulings concerning the deceased, when either of the two following signs are noted:
When his heartbeat and breathing stop completely, and the doctors decide that they cannot be restarted.
When all the functions of his brain stop completely, and experienced doctors and specialists state that this is irreversible, and his brain has started to disintegrate.
In these circumstances, it is permissible to turn off life support systems, even if some parts of his body – such as the heart, for example – are still functioning artificially with the help of these machines.
Majma’ al-Fiqh al-Islami, p. 36.

Hmm, good question!
On one hand, in some cases the mind and body is already dead, it's just being supported my machines enough to keep a pulse and perform some functions.
On the other hand, depending on how you end life support may end up causing more suffering and pain.
I think (my opinion) that it all depends on exactly how much life support the person is on. If the brain is no longer telling the body what to do, I would assume to keep him/her on life support would be inadvisable. If the person was still performing most normal bodily functions without the use of machines, then to remove them would equate murder. Starving someone to death for example.
No scholarly basis on this, just what I think it would be.

As salaamu 'alaikym warahmatullahi wabaraktu.
Insha'Allah, one would pray for guidence from Allah Subhanna wa Ta'ala and would ask others to pray with them.
During the time of the life of the Prophet Mohammad, peace be upn him, medicine was not as advanced as it is today and no such teaching was necessary then. The best one might do is to try to find something in the Sunnah Hadiths that might possibly speak to a similar situation. You might ask some of the senor members of your masjid for help in this, insha'Allah.
Insha'allah, it might be surmised that if the individual is only still "living" due ot the life support system that are in place, then that individual is not truly alive as a self sustaining person, realizing that only Allah Subhanna wa Ta'ala actually and truly sustains us.
My concern would be that one can not truly know the Mind of Allah Subhanna wa Ta'ala, as He is Allah and we are mere mortals at best. There is also the possibility that the person might recover, insha'Allah if left on the support systems for a while longer as such medical miracles have occurred.
Alhumdillillah! Insha'Allah, I don't have a good answer for you and I apolgize for that. May Allah Subhanna wa Ta'ala guide you to an answer, for He alone can guide you.
Any thing good that I may have said is from Allah Subhanna wa Ta'ala and any mistake that I made is purely mine own.
Ma'a salaam.

good question! never thought of it.. what would a person do? because even if your vegetable but you have pons working you would still be able to breathe on your own! but then if there is no one to take care of the person that person would die because of bed sores or what not! reminds me of Terry Sharivo case.... We worked closely with that case! I just pray no one I know and no one in my family and no Muslim or any one in the this world ever suffers that fate! because thats a horrible thing for the person ( stuck in the middle) and for the family!

From what I have read about this issue, to terminate the life is not permissible. In many places in the Quran Allah has said He is the only One to give life and to take it away.

It is not allowed to terminate their life to put them out of pain, but if they are already dead and only the body is being kept alive by machines it is allowed to turn off the machines.

You could plug off the machine...
I knew someone who was on life support at 23... he just got back from studying abroad... n one night he just collapsed...
His family, who happen to be very religious, consulted an Imam... n finally plugged off the machine...
ALSO... lots of Imams encourage to donate his/her organs...

i think of between the flaws it relatively is important is to comprehend you have sinned. without understanding which you have finished some thing that needs to be forgiven, how are you able to truly ask for real forgiveness? The bible is the observe of God. God isn't guy that He might desire to lie. subsequently if His observe says, "if we confess our sins, he's committed and in simple terms and could forgive us", it skill precisely that. we can take God at His observe. Our thoughts (i.e., no rely if we "sense" forgiven or no longer) do no longer negate that we are forgiven. it is going to be pronounced in basic terms by faith in Christ can we come till now God to ask for mercy.
