It sort of depends on exactly what you are trying to do. If this is an instance where you feel like your holding to much water, due to bloating or what not, there are some herbs, Golden Seal for one, which you can try. These are water balancers not diuretics, and yes there is a difference. Diuretics just pull water from your body, where as an herb like Golden seal will actually work with your body and help balance it out. This is one of the things natural body builders will use when getting ready for a contest. In any event, always consultant your doctor before trying anything new like this.

Why do you think you have excess water weight? Our bodies are mostly water and we cannot be healthy (or live) without the right amount. If you really need to excrete excess water your doctor can prescribe a diuretic, which is often used for people who have high blood pressure. Coffee and diet soda, and even water itself, act as diuretics.

Tips on diet: The usual suspects: Eat a well-balanced diet, low in fat, high in whole grains, very low in heavily processed foods. Eat a wide variety of foods to get the many nutrients that are good for us, and especially eat many fruits and vegetables daily. Avoid foods high in sugar, salt, fats and calories and low in nutrients.

Having said that, I will admit it's easier said than done!
