I know I'm the one that prompted this question, so I figured I'd give it a go.
I believe in a very real spiritual battle that can't be seen, but we're very much in the middle of it. Satan and his demons want to do everything they can to detract and distract people from God, and they'll use anything to do it. Watching movies that glorify "other worldy things" or playing games with witchcraft and stuff are simply allowing your mind to dwell on powers which Satan very much likes to use to deceive you.

Continuing with your example--in mountain climbing--
You cant do anything with out a toehold--overtime--that hole becomes larger and you have a foothold--that wears away and you have a knee rest.
Sin is like that little thing that doesn't mean anything--overtime--that little sin gets easier and the ifs start--the little sin don't hurt I wonder if I did this(?) it would not seem so bad. I can quit at any time. I think you can take it from there.
Why give a toe hold to the enemy? You can't play in mud without getting some on you "Abstain from all appearances of evil"

Let's start with some basics. Man's purpose is to glorify God in all we do and even think. Since God is good, good deeds and thoughs bring glory to God in the spiritual realm.
Our adversary is satan. The bible calls him the great deceiver. He fashions evil in such a way that it ain't that bad. The little white lie is still a lie. Just a little one. But it opens the door to your heart for evil to enter.
He wants your soul and he knows the easiest way to get it is through your heart. Or, put another way, it's like a Jedi mind trick. You believe some bads aren't that bad. And once satan has a foothold, it's much easier to convince you that a little more bad isn't gonna hurt.
The bible says you cannot serve two masters. Giving in to temptation is an invitation to satan and a rejection of God.

This sounds like a fundamentalist approach to me. I believe some things are spiritual and can open doors for demonic spirits. However, I think some things the fundamentalists push as being evil or demonic are questionable.
I think movies are the biggest demonic foothold, because they are always trying to sell humanistic and atheistic philosophy or ideas.

The battlefield is in the mind. When you open your mind up to evil, then evil can come in. We don't wrestle against flesh and blood but evil spirits who are capable of possessing the body and harming the body. Whether you choose to believe it or not, but we are to guard our eyes and ears against evil. You can't continually feed evil into your mind without evil possessing your mind.

this is how I distinguish the version. Believers are people who have self belief that Jesus Christ died on the flow to catch up on his or her sins and became into resurrected. they suspect that Jesus is the Son of God and the only thank you to heaven is via accepting Him as your man or woman Savior. Non-believers are people who the two don't think that Jesus became into the Son of God, died on the flow and became into resurrected from the ineffective, and/or that He even existed. i'm hoping that I understood your question properly and maybe shed some gentle on what many Christians (myself blanketed) advise whilst they communicate with believers/nonbelievers. wish you're doing nicely. =]
