The fact you don't know the answer causes me to doubt you have ever been a Sheriff. Non of the answers before mine show any evidence that they have a clue either. I will at least admit I don't know. Make an appointment to personally visit the nearest Passport office to obtain a replacement BEFORE you leave. If you need a government ISSUED ID, a drivers license still counts. If you need an ID as a government employee, it never did. That discrepancy is another reason I don't believe a word of your question.

Yes, just a local government ID. Not a Federal ID! Just an official ID in the Jurisdiction(County) in which you are employed. This does not mean professional courtesy would not be extended to you in other counties/jurisdictions. Or that your ID will not be excepted for ID in other counties/jurisdictions. Officially or unofficially, just for ID purposes only for others in your profession. Not the powers our responsibilities in which that ID imparts upon you in the official jurisdiction/county in which said ID is official/ originated from. I also do not know if one could use this as an ID for the purchase of alcohol(ID purposes), cigarettes, or to get into a night club as proof of age. I think that aspect is at the sole discretion of the vendor, store or night club owner. As it would be impossible for a store owner, vendor or night club owner to keep up with all the different counties Id's etc and so on. So to others in your profession. Yes, as more of a professional courtesy. Than law! The only official ID State wide that I am Aware of. Is your State issued Driver license or ID. That is Universally accepted that is. By the State! For the reasons you explain. I would say no. If they will not accept a state ID. What make you think they will accept a county ID. No!
Peace!!! Love!!! Happiness!!! Health!!!
