You absolutely have to feed her dog food...it is non-negotiable. Whether it is a higher-end store brand (Science Diet, etc.), or an all-natural independently-owned brand (Solid Gold...I swear by it), it has to be made for dogs.

On the contrary, there are dog-food recipes which provide you the knowledge and ingredients to make your own homemade dog food, some pet owners even opt to make a big batch and freeze individual portions in Ziploc bags for their pooches. This actually ends up being a bit more pricey, inasmuch as it contains expensive products like lamb, veal, chicken, etc., and can become a hassle if you are not committed and dedicated to making homemade meals for your dog for the next 15 years.

Step away from the MILK!! Lactose is not good for dogs in that form and it will more than likely result in digestive issues (diarrhea, excessive gas, etc.) and she will be miserable. If worse comes to worst, feed your puppy homemade lamb and rice...plain, unseasoned, and be sure to add supplemental dietary vitamins in a powder form which your puppy needs to grow properly (ask your vet or local Petco).

Good luck!!

If you just got her its gonna take a day or two to settle in. Do you have much of an appetite when your nervous? If she is under 10 weeks old then she's too young to be taken away from her mom by the way. Sometimes they have trouble eating hard kibble. Don't ever give dog any type of human foods. Most human foods have sugar in them, which are addicting and as a result, a fat dog. Are you feeding a quality food? Make sure you've got her on a good quality puppy food, not Iams, Purina, Pedigree, Beneful, Ol Roy, Eukanuba, Science Diet or anything sold at the super market. Look for brands such as Candaie, Natural Balance, Natural Choice, Eagle Pack, Dick Van Patten, California Nautral and Innova.
Give him time to settle in, when she is hungry, She will eat. Leave some food out. Once she has gotton the whole eating food thing down, feed 3 meals a day, do not leave any food out.

I am all about the BARF (odd name) diet! My Jack Russell is loving his new life right now. The vets will talk you out of it but Im telling you that my dog was almost dead. They were telling me they suspects he has intestinal cancer...I stopped all of the stinking pills they gave me and started to feed raw. AWESOME!!!! He had an eye condition...cleared up. He had intestinal problems...gone. His jaw bones were weakening...seem to be the strongest they have ever been. Also diagnosed with Addisons, which requires a shot every 28 days...Im now a month over due and his electrolytes are stable and great!
I dont recommend the milk though. I usually feed my guy some raw beef or chicken wings, a scoop of cottage cheese(probiotic) and some veggies ( carrots, peas, sweet potatoes, alfalfa sprouts) Maybe for dessert an apple with a dollop of peanut butter (natural of course)
If you are worried about salmonella, all you need to do is pour some apple cider vinegar on the chicken. That will kill any bacteria or you can freeze it for a month, also works well.

If all of this is too overwhelming for you then you should try Natures balance. all you have to do is thaw it out and voila! Dinner!

There are so many websites to research to be sure you are giving your little girl the best diet for her.

A or B... high protein derived from animal sources... so that's a plus... Food C has beet, which is controversial due to the possibility that it's an allergen... I need to go back and read D again, but the first two were good protein sources, so those are what I would feed. Edit/add: I just submitted when you put the brands on there... I'm happy with my choices. I'm suprised with C! I kinda figured Innova had to be one of the first two, only a couple brands are that high in animal protein! :) Good question

Stop feeding your puppy milk. That can cause very serious stomach upset. Do not keep feeding people food. If you start feeding your puppy people food it will be impossible to get it to switch to dog food later. Go to your vet, have them help you find a good quality puppy food, try canned and kibble. If you insist on giving people food, get some recipes from your vet for home made diets that are balanced. Just feeding beef meat and some vegetables and some fruits and some grains is not very healthy and puppies are more susceptible to growth disorders because their bodies need a very balanced diet to grow properly. Do not just start giving them "good for all ages" food, it tends to be too low in calcium and the phosphorous ratio can be completely wrong. Try Purina Veterinary Diet Pediatric or Medi-Cal Growth.
Good Luck and have fun with your puppy!

my mom makes homemade dog food with a rice or oatmeal base and then adds the veggies and chicken or beef. She cooks it up on her stove and then cans it.

She had a finicky dog too who wouldn't eat regular dog food. She started making this stuff and he eats it up. At first she tried mixing it with the regular dog food and he ate her stuff and left the rest. All four of her dogs love it and it's so healthy for them because it has no fillers. I'll bet you can find a recipe online.

I'd recommend a canned food mixed with dry, from a high-quality brand like Canidae. Or, you could cater to what your dog seems to like and go with the healthiest option: A prey-model raw diet.
