We are assuming that either you were not able to maintain children or there was a reason that you could not be with your children ( like court decision, children's will ... )

Your children should be your obligation no matter what. You don't stop supporting them (and I don't just mean financially) just because they are with the other parent. It took two of you to make the baby, and you are obligated at least until they are adults (though I personally believe that you are always obligated to an extent as their parent) to provide guidance, love, financial support, discipline.

What is best for them is if you and your ex-spouse can realize that the issues the two of you had for divorcing are separate from the children. They benefit from the ex-spouses attempting to be friends (or at least amicable) and from them working together as partners.

This is me speaking from experience. And I probably have two of the best-adjusted kids of divorce because my ex and I are intelligent enough to want to continue to give them the best of both of us. May Allah continue to guide us.

Of course I would. What parent wouldn't? I would think unconditional love for your children even in the face of them rejecting you or your ways would be a natural thing for parents to offer. Maybe I don't fully understand your question.

If your child is a minor it is your responsibility to provide discipline, direction and guidance. If your child is an adult or if your child is a minor and you don't have custody, you should encourage them to choose what is right, but you can't force them to.

Do what you can and leave the rest in God's hands.

My children are all old enough to make their own choices. I only want my children to be happy, the choices are theirs. I will support them in their choices and will be there to help them.
