I have both Office 2000 and Office 2007.

Office 2007 will read documents created in all previous versions of Office.

However, I have found that Office 2000 cannot read an Office 2007 document. That is because of the new file format used by Office 2007. I don't have Office 2003 so I cannot testify to it.

Hope this helps.

Office 2007 is backwards compatible, however, the new format trashes all compatibility with previous versions. Either:
a) Save it as an Office 97-2003 document with the appropriate save option
b) Download the compatibility pack for your work.

Yes

IF you have Office 2007 documents, you can still open them in previous versions of office by installing the Office 2007 compatibility pack: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/HA101686761033.aspx

Old to new, yes. You may get a popup regarding compatability checks.

And most new to old will work.
