entirely up to the command. some receive their 2 week R&R at the halfway point, some receive it is soon as 90 days after arriving on station, some don' t get it until 90 days before leaving. and some choose to not take it at all..or are unable to get any time approved.

Soldiers rarely go on vacation, lol. They do get days off and LEAVE which I think you are talking about. Your boyfriend should have had the opportunity to take block leave before he deployed, usually a month or two before deploying, he could take the time off only if he had enough leave days to use. Once deployed no one, except in extreme cases takes leave the 1st 90 days in country and the last 90 days either. Once they get settled over there they will start asking them what month they would like to "request". Depending on the requests they will try and schedule everyone so that that soldiers place is covered. Some soldiers especially high ranking will not be able to choose or in some cases take R&R. Some soldier try and take R&R during important times to them such as Birthdays, Anniversary, holidays, when their children are due to be born, ect. I would personally recommend that your guy try and wait till after the half way point, that way when he goes back it will be a shorter time till they return. R&R is usually 2 weeks give or take how many days he requests and travel time. About a month before he'll kinda have a idea which week he'll be home. Actual dates wouldn't be know till 1 or 2 days before. When they redeploy they will have another opportunity to take block leave depend on their leaves days they have earned. Hope that helps :)

Well, in the military it's not called "Vacation"... it's called "leave"... He'll get leave at some point while he's there... that's all they've told him.. that's all anybody knows about it at this point. When he will be allowed to take that leave will depend on his job, the needs of the military right then and there... They probably try to plan them out a little in advance... but not THIS far in advance. Right now they're trying to make sure all the guys who've been there, away from their families, are getting the leave they're due... and are rotating back stateside when the time comes.
New guys coming into the deployed area really aren't their main priority, in terms of scheduling leave... once he's been there a few months, he'll probably get a better idea when that leave might be.

With the longer deployments all soldiers are given the opportunity to and encouraged to take leave. It'll most likely be around mid deployment, maybe a bit befor or a bit after. If there's a significant event he wants to be home for, they may let him take his leave then. He should get to take atleast two weeks, but I doubt they'll let him take much more than that. Good luck to both of you with the deployment.

hey- I myself have been deployed and my husband has been twice & everytime there was a 2 week break for R&R (leave) (the 2 weeks begins when he gets home and ends 2 weeks later - travel does not count towards the 2 weeks).
when it comes up, it depends on his unit ( size and their mission) Usually it will not begin till half way through- which is best- it makes the other half of the deployment not seem as long. and there is little chance of 'picking' when you want to take your R&R

Probably at the beginning of his 8th month of deployment. That would be about half of 15 months. My brother is serving in Iraq right now and he got 2 weeks half way through his 12 month deployment.

I am currently in the Army and deployed and in my unit people started taking leave around the 3rd month we were here. This will all depend on the workload of the soldiers that are there and when his unit will let him come home on leave. Good luck to your BF and tell him to stay off the skyline.

Well hun when in the military you sometimes don't get vacation. I found out that my soldier got r and r two days before i was supposed to go to NYC so i canceled my trip then found out the day he was supposed to arrive that he wouldn't be home for more weeks. Sometimes the not knowing when you will get to see him next makes his homecoming more sweet! You won't ever like it but you will get used to the way the military works. Just keep being positive!!!

When he is told that he can go on leave. Depending on where he is being deployed to will depict how long and the timeframe which he will be able to take leave. It also depends on how long he will be deployed. If less than 6 months he won't get any leave until he returns to his duty station.

He will beable to take LEAVE while he is there. But I guess it depends which branch of the military is in. My hubby got 2 weeks for the birth of our baby but everyone gets thier R&R. I know for the ARMY LEAVE doesnt start for at least 4-6 months after they arrive in country. Some sooner then others.
