In my experience, the time has been varied. The first Yorkie I ever owned, some 30 odd years ago, came from the notorious Kensington Dog Bureau at just 8wks old! He was so sick and tiny but, of course, I was a mere novice where the breed was concerned then. And yet, this little Yorkie was totally house-trained within a month! We used to put down newspaper and, after his meals, we'd place him on it ... and he'd do his 'duties', automatically!

My next two 'boys' came from a home-breeder at Wormwood Scrubs Prison (honestly!) and both of them were already semi-clean at 12wks. No problems with either of them throughout their wonderful lives.

My present two were 'trouble' from the word 'go'. I took both of them over from a previous owner - one, at 4mths and the other at 12wks. They are still making 'mistakes' to this very day, despite all the care and training we have given!

My advice is, follow the 'newspaper' rule after meals. No Yorkie is ever the same as another. One advantage with Yorkies, though ... They're little doggies and little doggies make that bit smaller mess!!!

Hi, I have a Yorkie also, he's now 7 yrs. old. Yorkies are strong minded dogs (as you probably already know). I've read that it may take 7-9 months to train them to go outside, although some may learn in as little as one or two months. It took my yorkie around 8 months before he was finally trained. As a last resort I would leave him in a crate when I was not home until he finally learned. Don't rub his nose in the poop (sometimes they learn to eat it if you do that). Do scold him or even spank him (more for show than to actually hurt him, Yorkies are small and you should never, never hit him hard at all) with a rolled up news paper (the noise is what's efective not the pain). Be patient, and they will learn even if it takes a while, they are extremely smart dogs but sometimes they have ideas of their own. I hope this helps.

It takes as long as it takes. They are very tiny dogs with tiny little bladders. Get an x-pen and put down some papers or wee wee pads. That way you won't have accidents all over the house. The puppy should be getting two meals a day so make sure it goes out about twenty minutes after eating. There are loads of books available on housebreaking but there are no magic potions. It takes time and patience - especially with toy breeds.

yorkies are notorusly hard to train. most are about 9 months old before results are really seen

it depends on how old this puppy is - how many meals it needs. make sure she is not going too long between especially during the nite. if their glucose drops to low it can cause seizures

I have an adult yorkie and it takes about, well you have to give them six months free for accidents but, after the six months is up it should do great make sure that you use indoor pads for your dog to pee on though those are lifesavers they are great dogs and learn things easily;>
