I say save the trouble and go with money. 17 is a really hard age if you don't know her that well.

depends on the girl. what does she like? music? then fill it with itunes cards and headphones and that kind of thing. if she likes sports, then a new water bottle or a membership card to a gym. go with what you know and go from there.
