to use the NASCAR name on their show? I ask only because on General Hospital (yes, my soap opera) someone made a reference to going to a "Stock Car Race at Louden" this weekend. I just wondered if they meant the last race, and just couldn't say NASCAR or just a race in general.

Yes the have to have written permission before they can use the name Nascar or the drivers name or number.

Unless the writters get the ok from NASCAR they can not mention the name (NASCAR) directly.
Days of our life did use NASCAR a few years ago in an episode with Casey Mears.

They don't need permission to use the word because it's considered "fair use" under copyright law. The reason that they avoid using brand names is because they don't want to be seen as endorsing a product, also it would be free advertisment. (They like to charge for advertisment)

the way they said it they didnot need permission.since they didnot use a name like NASCAR,ASA,CASCAR,or any others it was perfectly legal.
