Dogs do this when they have a blockage in one of the glands in their anus. Since she doesn't have thumbs he can't squeeze out the fluid. You can relive the pressure or you can have a vet do it. Some groomers will do it also for extra $$. It's pretty gross work, but to save your carpet, you may want to take your dog to the groomer.

Usually when a dog drags its bottom on the ground it's because its anal glands are blocked or itchy. These glands sit on either side of the dog's anus and contain the dog's individual scent. (This is what dogs are looking for when they sniff each other's behinds.) Large dogs (because of their hefty musculature) can express these glands naturally, but sometimes smaller dogs can't and the glands get stopped up or infected.

We suggest taking your dog to the vet and having her glands checked. The vet can express them manually if necessary within a few minutes.

It is usually caused by either impacted anal glands, or worms. You need to take her to the vet and have her checked out. He/she can either put her on a wormer or express the anal glands for her which can be very sore and painful.

The anal glands are located to the side of her anus, and can become full and sore if she is not cleaning herself correctly after defecating, or she may be reacting to whatever is in the food she is eating. A lot of dogs cannot digest low fiber food properly, there is not enough fiber to empty the glands.

Sometimes the glands can become infected, and she may need to be put on antibiotics.

Hope your pup is doing better soon.

My dog did it quite frequently. We finally took her to the vet after her bottom became raw red (poor thing, we were new at having a dog). It was her anal glands.

After frequent visits to the vet (with the same issue), she is recommended to have surgery to remove the glands because it happens way too frequently. But I'm sure yours is a one off.

Many groomers don't do the procedure and recommend pet owners to go visit the vet.

Two words! ANAL GLANDS. My groomer does it every now and then to my dog, when he starts to drag his butt on my floor. It's a muscles so it shouldn't be done too often, She does my dog's every 3 months or so. It stinks a bit, so i don't think you should do it at home. And it's a wonderfull time to take the dog out for a professionnal bath!!! :)

It is most likely her anal glands ...have them expresses by a vet or groomer....but be careful because the glands can become infected...my dog started doing it and being an ex vet tech I knew why so I took him in to have it done...(easier than trying to do it myself)...the vet did the expression and got some blood turns out he had an infection in his right gland...had to have antibiotics for a month.

It is most likely her anal glands that needs to be expressed. It's gross, foul smelling and disgusting but needs to be done by a groomer or your vet.

Pumpkin can help. PLAIN pumpkin. Put a tbsp in her food.

Its not fleas. Actually its irritated. This can be for many reasons. Your pet food for one, another is your dogs grooming habits. Chasity may not be grooming herself properly. SO when its time to bath Chasity, make sure you clean that area Very well. Also if you want it to stop try to change up her pet food

Often, it is to express their anal glands.
Other times, it itches.
Still other times, they may have worms and that is why it itches.
Those are the most common reasons.
