Also, I would go into the surgery with a good therapeutic dosage of ibuprofen already in your bloodstream. That means for 2 or 3 days before your surgery, take 400mgs of ibuprofen every 4-6 hours. Otherwise, cold packs on your face and neck 15 minutes on and off after surgery. And that is about all you can do to try to limit swelling immediately after surgery. Unfortunately inflammation is a normal body reaction, and there is no way of knowing how individual bodies will react after any surgery.
By the way, you can even experience profound bruising of the face and neck after dental surgery, even surgery that went easy and well.

I had all 4 of mine removed in Nov. I wasn't completely knocked out, so I can't help you with how you'll do with that. I can share that I thought I would be really puffy from what people told me. I wasn't. I actually didn't look like I had anything done. Well, immediately afterwards I did because they pack your cheeks with gauze to help control the bleeding. Once I removed that, you really couldn't tell I had anything done. I was happy about that as I had heard the same thing you did. I will tell you that I was really tired afterwards. I felt pretty normal immediately after the surgery, but about 2 hours later all I wanted to do was sleep. And the nap in the afternoon was so nice. And I will recommend microwave pancakes. After a few meals of pudding, applesauce, etc. you want something normal. The microwave pancakes are soft enough to eat, but make you feel like you're eating real food. LOL! Good luck! You'll do great!

If this wisdom teeth isn't that develop, that can make the surgery less intense making it less puffy. Um... I don't think theres really anything to make it NOT swell dramatically in a short period of time.

I am 100 %%% sure you won't be able to go to this event becuase of the surgury and your body wanting and needing to rest. Whatever it is, you don't want to go there and then faint or look tired

I got my teeth pulled recently and truly taking 800 mg of ibuprofen won't really help the swelling, but it will help with the pain. I couldn't feel my face for like 5-6 hours after that and my chin was huge. Going out can and prolly will make it worse. Your gonno b trying to socialize and it is kinda hard to take and your constantly bleeding for the next two days. I'm warning you, you will look stupid if you go and it won't be the most comfortable thing.

Take the anti-inflammatory medication that is recommended or prescribed to you for after the surgery. Ibuprofen (Advil) is often used. Applying ice packs to your swollen cheeks will reduce swelling, and will also provide some pain relief. Try using a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel. The ibuprofen will also help reduce the pain, which you will definitely be feeling that night!

Good luck!

Take about 800 mg of Ibprophin and when you get home from the dr. use an ice pack for a while. Though to be honest I dont know if your going to be up for going to any function after having a wisdom tooth out. Its not fun and is very painful at the start. Maybe you can postpone your dr. appt? good luck

Honestly, i don't think you will be in any frame of mind to go out later that night. I slept all that day and I was in a ton of pain. You won't really swell the first night, but you will be in a lot of pain. the swelling happens 2-5 days afterwards.

Ice packs for the first 3 days, than moist warm heat for the next 3 days. I just went through this. Trust me. It works pretty well.
