Were using the clear plastic 9 oz cups for wine at our wedding. When it says 9 oz cup, does that mean it is 9 ounces from top to bottom, or that you would typically pour 9 ounces into the cup? I aks this because I am calculating wine amounts. Thanks!!

The cup you describe is a multi purpose glass, it can be used for mixed drinks, wine or martinis and Old Fashions. Bartenders know not to pour the glass full when pouring wine so that it isn't spilled while walking back to a table, etc.

For the purpose of figuring wine servings, 6 oz. is a generous pour. Of course, if you have a bartender they should be advising you.

If it's self service our a friend is going to pour, you will lose some control of the portions. As a rule of thumb, if you are only serving wine--you should figure 2-3 glasses per person--because some people will not drink any at all and some might have more than 3 glasses.

If you are serving beer and mixed drinks, that will change the quotient downwards for the amount of wine to figure.

Some folks will only want sodas so be sure to have them available--the 9 oz. glass with ice will work great for those as well--that way guests aren't walking around with soda cans that can get knocked over.

Best wishes on your special day!

You should never fill a glass completely full with wine. So if you have a 9 oz cup you should expect to put about 4 oz of wine in each cup.
