Hi Honey. I'm so sorry to hear your cat has cancer. I would check with your vet and see what he/she thinks as far as her "quality of life" is for the next 6-12 months. Does the vet want to put her through chemo or do surgery etc? If so, you may really want to think that one through....we as humans understand the need for such things, but your kitten is trusting you to make her life as pain free as possible. When you see that she is just plain meiserable...then as hard as it is, you would have to make that final decision. I know...I've have 14 pets in the past 30 years and I've had to put 2 cats to sleep at ages 17 ys and one at 19 years and one pup at 15 years. It was the hardest decision of my life, as I loved them all...just like you do your cat. Talk with your parents....this isn't something that you have to do right away. Give her and yourself time to adjust to what you just found out...she may surprise you and her vet and be fine for quite awhile. Pray and don't let anyone talk you into that "final decision" before you and your family are truly ready.
Give her soft bedding...maybe a heated cat bed would help sooth her and give her the warm she needs to stay with you longer. Give her soft foods and let her know how very much you love her.
Many blessings, Patti

Jessie -

I have two cats with aggresive cancers right now and have been on the Yahoo group feline-cancer for over a year. Conventional treatments can include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, etc and they are very expensive to pursue. Cancer is not readilly "cured" even then. If it has been caught early and depending of the type of cancer you might be able to get some remission for a while.

Why don't you join the cancer group and you can search archives of messages on the type of cancer your kitty has and read what treatment options you might have and how things have gone with other cats. You just go to: http://www.yahoogroups and put "feline-cancer" in the search area. Your membership will take only a day to be approved.
Members are most supportive and helpful.

You have to make a decision. You can't let her suffer the pain that is associated with cancer. I know you love her with all your heart & she loves you the same way.

By making attempts to save her life is not thinking about what is best for her. She put her life in your hands 8 years ago & it is still up to you to make end life arrangements. I know you are crying & so upset you aren't thinking or feeling right & everything is wrong but think about her. You will feel the same loose when she dies regardless of when. One way she will suffer & you have to watch her suffer, or you can have her euthanized when she starts hurting. Don't watch her suffer that will break your heart even more when you stop to think that she didn't have to go this way.

It is a hard decision but I'm sure you already know the answer but you aren't quite ready to even let that thought go through your mind.

I am soooo so sorry. I lost a Great Dane with bone cancer & I let it go too long & now I have a lot of guilt. Poor my boy. His name was Box Car.

i am sorry to hear that your cat has cancer. But when its her time to go it her time to go. Dont prolong her suffering but make the last year or two of her life a good one and when she does go make a moremorial for her. Once again I am sorry. i know what its like i had a newfoundland and he died of a overlarge heart and we tryed all sorts of medication to keep him alive for another month and by the end of in he could hardley get up the steps. Dont let your cat suffer like my dog did.

Well, it depends on what kind of cancer. Some are curable with surgery, others can be treated with chemo or radiation. There are many kinds of cancer and are treated differently. There are veterinary oncologists that specialize in this, and you might want to ask your vet for a referral.

Oh child, I wish I could help you more. It's her time. If she is truly your best friend, please don't let her suffer. I KNOW how hard it is - been there. If I were on the receiving end, I'd want someone who loved me enough to end the pain. Most of us let our pets linger more than they should because WE can't take the loss. She has had 8 wonderful years with you. Keep it that way.

you should ask your vet this question. If there was chemo available your vet should have told you about it. Consider getting a second opinion
