Indeed. Of course they see it as being saved from hellfire and damnation; they don't stop to think that he's the one that created them in the first place. Go figure.

Where on Earth did you get that idea?..Jesus did not come to condemn the world but to save it and we are not saved from Jesus we are saved from the wrath of God on mankind because of its wickedness.

By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

Well, yes. When you look at it that way, it is.

I've long felt sorry for the doom and gloom Christians out there... having a God that's set up this invisible mine-field for them, knowing they couldn't possibly get through it, and then punishing them for failing tasks he knows they can't possibly succeed at.

To be honest, that vision of God has always struck me as disturbing. God the Father becomes an abusive parent who sets up impossible situations, waits for his children to fail, and then beats them for it while screaming:

"Why do you make me do things like this? DO YOU THINK I WANT TO DO THIS TO YOU?!"

That's always seemed like a very cold and frightening vision of reality to me. Personally, I'd like to think that God is a bit nicer than the local mob out for its protection money, but that's just me.

I'm sure like every abused child or spouse, though, Christians who believe in that sort of God will be happy to offer up every excuse there is for just why God has to be that way and we have to be punished.

It's not from Jesus, it's from Satan who is the holder of permanent death.
