"I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet" (History of the Church, Vol. 6, pp. 408, 409).

Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

This is also troubling...
* Brigham Young said that the "Christian God is the Mormon's Devil..." (Journal of Discourses, Volume 5, page 331).

Then polygamy was banned and all that crumbled down around his ears.

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Even Jesus said that there would be those who, believing on Him, would do even greater works than what Jesus did.

Was Joseph wrong to boast? Perhaps. That's between him and the Lord, but remember, he WAS a human being first. No prophet was perfect.

Was Joseph wrong in what he was boasting about? I think he was right. Jesus' followers DID run away, but, the Saints didn't turn their backs on Joseph Smith.

As far as what Brigham Young supposedly said, could you be more precise, because I looked up that "quote" and couldn't find it. I really don't like to have to read every talk by Brigham Young in Vol. 5, and you are the one who makes he accusations against him, so it is up to you to prove what you say. I am even giving you a link to the entire Journals of Discourses.

The Journal of Discourses is the source of the most damaging evidential element of the mormon church: The prophets and apostles themselves. This is why most lds don't read them, and why they are dismissed so readily on YA by the interMorgs.

It is a good thing to post the talks and statements these pretentious doodyheads made, as it shines a poor light on the One True Church, and hopefully we can end the influence of this organization before the end of the decade.

This was taken way out of context. Joseph Smith was taking about the last dispensation of time, what we are in today. He is saying that the church won't end. It will continue until Christ comes again. No one else can say that they have kept the whole church intact, ever. That part is true. But you also have to remember that he was human!! He was a prophet, but even prophets have their own ideas, and their own thoughts. They aren't perfect. A lot of people will see this as boasting. I don't, but then I know the situation and circumstances surrounding this.

As far as the Brigham Young statement. He is talking about the concept of the Trinity. That is the christian God he is talking about. No, we don't believe in the trinity. We believe that God, Christ and the Holy Ghost are separate beings, one in purpose. We do not believe in the same God as the trinity. The trinity to us is not a correct concept of God. But this statement was also taken out of context. Oh.. I have the journal of discourses, and this is what it really says: Their belief reminds me that brother Joseph B. Nobles once told a Methodist priest, after hearing him describe his god, that the god they worshipped was the "Mormons'" Devil-a being without a body, whereas our God has a body, parts, and passions. The Devil was cursed and sent down from heaven. He has no body of his own; therefore he is constantly endeavouring to obtain possession of the tabernacles belonging to others. It wasn't said by Brigham.. see how things can be taken and twisted to fit what you want them to??

As far as being Christian. I AM!!!! I believe in Christ, He is my savior. It is through Him that my sins are forgiven. I do believe in the bible, and I do read it! If believing in the trinity is all that has to be to make you Christian, then I guess to you, I'm not. That's fine by me! I know what I believe. No one can tell me what I believe in, and what I don't. Just because you heard something doesn't mean it's true! Please take a look at this website. It might help you to understand things more from our perspective.

Chicago Lawyer may be interested to learn that over a year ago a leading Pastor in the Evanglical Alliance stood up in the Salt Lake Tabernacle and apologised on behalf of Evangelicals for the lies spread about Mormons, including the claim that they are not Christian.

Our leaders may have been prophets, but they were also fallible men. Joseph Smith made many mistakes, often documented in excruciating detail, and was chastened by the Lord for them. Happily whether one is a Christian or not does not depend on whether the leader of one's church once got a little hot under the collar about a certain issue.

What you quote is not Mormon doctrine. If you want to prove us not to be Christians, you'll have to work harder than this. I am a Christian and have been since I was 14. Joining the LDS church when I was 23 does not alter that.

And excuse me Syndy B - I do live a Christlike life, and I do believe in the Holy Bible. Please don't accuse me of things when you know nothing about me.

Hear the Word of the Lord for your answer, Behold they are not Mine, many of they are not, for they dont know Me, yet I have reserved some from among them that they should worship Me, but this is a remnant, and not the majority, therefore know that they do not worship Me, the True and Living God,for I must be worshiped in Spirit and in Truth, and My Spirit is not in them, yet day by day I continually plead with some of them to come to Me and be saved, but they would not......says the Spirit of the Living God

Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant Christianity all agree that the Mormons are not "Christians" (notwithstanding the fact that individual pastors and even entire groups at the fringes of the evangelical movement might break from this position).

Pride can be an ugly thing. It's one of our biggest sins...and down-falls.

To be a Christian, one must be a follower of Jesus Christ.

Take a look at Rev. 22:19-20. That covers the book of Mormon.

Joseph Smith Jr taught that we are in the last dispensation, also known as the Fullness of Times or the Season of the Gentiles. He was promised that this dispensation would last until Jesus' Second Coming. Joseph's comment is that the Dispensation of Christ ended in total apostasy, while this one won't (more than likely because we have so little time before the end of the world).

EDIT: In answer to "Serving Lord Jesus", read Deut 4:2. If we are to interpret Deut the way you read Revelation, then we should have nothing but the five books of Moses!
