I have recently had my braces removed from my teeth. Does anyone know if biting fingernails will push my teeth out of shape?

Biting your fingernails is what dentists refer to as a parafunctional habit. It will not move your teeth, but it can wear your teeth in an abnormal way. Just like chewing on a pen cap or guys who put nails in their mouths can develop little wear facets on the biting edges of their front teeth.

You should stop biting your nails any way. There are so many germs under your finger nails. Think about it, you touch door knobs and hand rails and money and then put your fingers in your mouth.

But to answer your question yes it can hurt your teeth.
