NO. Your radio uses the battery for power. The alternater puts power in to the battery. The alternater does not work like the AC compresser, the alternater is all ways truning.

Technically yes. The radio operates on electricity supplied by either the battery or the car's alternator which is driven by the engine. The louder you play your radio, the more current it requires thus placing a greater load on the alternator. This will take more energy, horsepower, to turn the alternator which will require more gas. Now, while all that is true, the amount of current in question is very small. It might make a 1 ounce difference in gas mileage over several thousands of miles. It can safely be said that for practical purposes, it does not materially affect gas mileage. Now, if you have a tricked out car with a zillion watt amplifier that draws enough current to light Los Angeles, then it could make more of a difference.

Surprisingly, the answer is yes. Having the radio on makes the alternator harder to turn which takes a tiny bit more gas. The radio isn't enough to worry about, but having the AC on really affects the gas mileage.

Yes. Alternators require horsepower. When the alternator has to charge more (or more powerful equipment) i.e. a huge amplifier, it requires more horsepower, which sucks down more gas.
A/C compressors do the very same thing.

It is also believed by some that when you have huge amps, the spark plugs don't get enough 'oomph' and therefore it'll burn more gas.

100 AMP ALTERNATOR TAKES ABOUT 4 HORSE power
so yes it will use more gas maybe a couple of pannies nothing extreme turn don't the volume save gas lol

no. the radio doesn't even have anything to do with the gas. it'll waist your BATTERY in the car, but not the GAS.

you can run out of gas(with the car not even running anymore) and still blast the radio[because the battery is still on]

I'm pretty sure the answer is NO. The radio and all your car electronics runs off the alternator which works like a generator off the motor. The alternator puts out a contant flow of power whether you use it all or not.

the alternator doesnt have a gear shift to pull more power, the alternator is moved the same way as always with or without battery power, the radio doesnt pull more gas, if you where to get a bigger alternator it would use more gas but the altarnator you already have wont change anything to generate more power, because it cant, the stereo system runs off the battery, this doesnt affect gas

A few got it correct.
Everyone who can't spell simple words correctly, or are too lazy to use the spell checker should turn their computer off.

Depends on what kind of music. I listen to groups like Disturbed, Rammstein, Slipknot, etc. I definitely burn more petrol, as aggressive = lead foot ;-)
