A church pastor, as part of his job, is trained in counseling. You could shoot the church office an e-mail, or give them a call, and make an appointment. Or just ask him a question directly by sending him an e-mail.
Our church has a lay counseling group that consists of people who have had a nine month counseling course. If they cannot help you, then can direct you toward a pastor or a professional Christian psychological therapist.
Most churches would have a similar program. Why would you feel weird talking to your pastor about personal stuff?

As a Preacher and Christian writer I would hope and pray that all that know me feel they can come to me with any question and receive a truthful answer without judgment or prejudice.
I try very hard to stress that I have faced the same problems and questions everyone faces.
I have done some of the same things as other people.
I,m not a Saint, strictly a man that tries and fails and tries again.

I know what you mean. Sometime I feel as if many people at church are just religious and can´t wait for the opportunity to preach at you. Than again there are some really amazing people who are patient with my tiresome and sometimes very annoying questions and give some really cool answers. You just have to find them.
I usually ask friends personal "religious" questions. But the theoretical ones I may save for a minister.
Just never give up looking for the answers. Sometimes I just ask God and He answers. i love it when that happens.

Serious answer. If you come to the altar to present your gift and remember you have anything against your brother leave you gift and go and make peace with your brother.
It is your duty as a believer to go to you brother that you have and issue with and talk to that brother. Not other people in the church.
It is not till your brother won't listen that others get involved but then still they are only there as witnesses.
No easy way out dude you need to confront issues head on.

I have confidence in my ministers and would ask them about any social or personal issue. Sure, some things are very hard to talk about, especially if you have done a wrong and fear getting disciplined, or if you are afraid of disagreeing with what your minister says about the issue.

if church is just a place you go to on sundays, it would be uncomfortable to be open about your life or problems.
for most Christians, church is family. like the new testament Christians in Acts, we break bread, share our lives/possessions/ money, etc. so that is why you got that advice.
it might have been better advice to suggest you change churches...
but to answer your question - yes, i do go to my church for help with personal and social issues. in fact, on a couple of occasions, my church has come to me to tell me to get my act together... it works both ways...

It would depend on the relationship you have with your minister, and how much you trust them. And that largely depends on your church.
Discussing personal issues with anyone is going to be difficult, and it is always easier to ask anonymous strangers on here. Ultimately you do what you have to do to resolve your issues.

It would be a bit daunting. Why don't
you do an alpha course where there will be other people with questions like yours? Really, you can ask anything! It's a great way to learn.
