As a girl, I was a Pentacostal. when I began to have sexual feelings I sought guidance in the Church. I learned early that is the wrong place to go for honest discussion about sexuality. They made me feel dirty and I had done nothing wrong. I was quoted scriptures and threatned with damnation and all I wanted was to understand my feelings.

I was taught that sex is a necessary evil. The perfect role model for conception was the virgin Mary.

Again I am reminded of the rules. I always knew the rules. How do you help an 11 year old who's awakening sexually? Talk to her like human with real feelings? No, you repeat the same old lectures.

Religions strive to control people. One means of control is to deal out licenses for sex. Many religions see themselves as only instance which may conduct marriages, and marriage is the license for sex. Since sex is one of the strongest human urges, religions can control people by deciding who may have sex and who may not.
And since sex is promoted only as means for reproduction, the religion gets its fingers on the offspring first. It's quite a shrewd scheme.
Edit: Theophilus, I am not speaking of the licenses for marriage. I am speaking of licenses for sex. And the church interpretation is that marriage is a necessary license for sex.

I have doubts that you where raised in a main stream Pentecostal church, maybe a fringe sect or cult. Sex was created by God for good reasons. of course the reproduction of man but also for pleasure. If you doubt that, read Song of Solomon. Sexual relations between one man and one woman who are MARRIED and who love one another, is a perfect love. Anyone who tells you otherwise is perverting the truth of God's word, That is the great thing about the bible it is there for you too read if you want and need to, do not always believe what people say if they can not back it up by scripture. With this said, there are some ground rules,, first you must be married, no if ands or buts, no engagement, no commitment, but Married. " for this reason a man will leave his home and together man and woman will become one." this is the only perfect union. Man and man? no, Woman and woman? no. two men and a woman, no, only one man and one woman for all time in love. In a married relationship, good, fun sex is wonderful and is meant to be so.

There is a line of demarcation between need & neccessity. According to religion , sex is a neccessity to run the cycle of evolution on earth but when it becomes a need (passion), then it becomes an aversion. In India, we have seen many religious sculptures depicting sexual posiions.People would have opposed it had it carried a sinful message.

I don't have an aversion to sex, I enjoy it very much with the woman to whom I am married. However I would not enjoy it with anyone to whom I did not have a personal intimate relationship outside of sex.
What we Christians do have an aversion to is improper sex.
We believe that sex is a very important part of the relationship between a man and a woman who have been united in holy matrimony in the presence of God.
A study of Hosea would show that God considers His people to be His bride, and if His people worship other gods, it is kin to adultery. We should hold our marital relationship in the same light. To be unfaithful to our mate is equivalent to being unfaithful to our God.
For NaturalBornKieler I must remind you that a marriage license is given by the state, and not by the church. I must also remind you that the state does not care if the marriage is performed in a church, a home, a park, a brothel, or anywhere else. It just needs the name of the person who performed the ceremony and a witness. Most states do not have a requirement that the person who performs the ceremony be an ordained minister.

my religion doesn't. i'm mormon. you're supposed to have sex and have children.. sex is (obviously) a way to procreate, and also designed to be a pleasureable experience between husband and wife, for them to enjoy together and to bring them closer.
the only aversion is to having sex outside of marriage. it causes many problems... such as the consequences children end up suffering when they don't have a strong mother and father figure in their lives

Because sex is the one thing that everyone shares--whether male or female. It is the driving force toward procreation. Man's job on earth is to procreate, so of course it is what he would write about--regardless of religious orientation

Not all Christians are so negative about sex. I always talked to my kids openly about sex. What a Christian should have an aversion to is sex outside of marriage. God bless!!!

Actually, Islam seems to be one of the first religions to acknowledge the sexuality of its believers, particularly of women. There are hadith instructing the mutual satisfaction of both partners.

It all started with Eve. She messed it all up. In order to enjoy sex a man needs a woman. She is flawed so it make it a dirty thing. Their words, not mine. Judging by the "CHRISTIANS" that I have read on here, I would have to guess that they do not enjoy themselves and only condemn others. Easy to do when you are on the internet. But having known too many of them, I see the flaws like giant red flags. Catholics like sex. So do Mormans. Make more Catholics and Mormans.
The answer on monogamy is strange. I have never seen any mention of it in the Bible.
