which one is the healthier choice?

They're equally unhealthy. The batter is the same; it's the preparation that differs.

However, sometimes more butter is added to waffle mix. This allows the waffle not to stick to the grid.

Homemade waffles or pancakes are much better. My husband makes pancakes from a Hodgston Mills mix. All of Hodgston Mills products are whole grain and their prices are very comprable (I think even cheaper) than Bisquick, though still more than the store brand.

In lieu of oil and eggs, my husband adds either ripe banana, apple sauce or canned pumpkin. I think any mashed up fruit will work. He will also add soy milk as well. They're a little denser than, say, IHOP's pancakes, but they're much healthier and cheaper.

To top them we use Smart Balance spread (all natural oils; The ligtht only has 45 calories a serving, but I like it better because it spreads better than the regular), real maple syrup (none of the chemical maple flavored high fructose corn syrup stuff) and apple butter from a mom and pop jam, jelly and fruit stand and cider mill in his hometown.

I gotta admit that I do like Cracker Barrell's pancakes, but I don't have them often. It's just a good place to go with others who are not vegan (well, everybody else I know) and I can get something more exciting than four or five things from the dinne sides list. Cracker Barrell does use real maple syrup, which is more than I can say for IHOP. (I'm not keen on IHOP.)

I hope this helps.

Waffles are healthier if they're made right. To make -real- waffles, you beat the egg whites and fold them into the rest of the batter. This makes waffles that are very light, and crisp on the outside.

(Now I have to say, this is only my opinion. You can just pour pancake batter into a waffle iron and you might get pretty good waffles. But to me, the beaten-egg-white kind are sooo much better!)

If you do them this way there isn't as much in them, so less fills you up, so that's better.

Also it depends on what you put on them. The butter and syrup are the worst part. A little bit of peanut butter is better. Putting chopped up nuts in them is better because the nuts are good for you.

Contrary to popular opinion, pancake and waffle batter are NOT the same if they are made properly. Waffles have more oil in them; whether or not that is unhealthy depends on the amount you eat, the type of oil you use, and other factors. As with anything else, moderation is the key. There is no sugar in either pancake or waffle batter, and there are no "harmful chemicals" if you make your own at home.

i would say waffles because they are lighter and it seams like you get more food in the same area because they can be tall(like an inch). pancakes are a little denser. this is my thought, i might not be right tho.

Neither are healthy. The batter is FILLED with butter, sugar, and fattening chemicals. Try having cereal with bananas and strawberries on top instead. :)
