NO drinking while in boot camp regardless of age. Drinking while in school is up to the school and the base even if you are of age. While you are living on base there can also be a weekend and weekday curfew. It all depends on the school and the base CO. Until you are 100% done with school you will not be giving any huge forms of liberty. Even at 21+ years of age, people tend to do something to get themselves into some sort of trouble. They need you guys to finish school successfully and get out there to help the people already fighting. Screwing up in school is the last thing they are going to allow you to do.

That guy stanyazfan has the right answer on this one. Of course you cant drink in Boot Camp , you cant even talk unless a Drill Instructor tells you to. But in your MOS training your evenings and weekends are usually off duty to do whatever you want.
I did my MOS training at FT Sill, OK. Eveb though it is an Army base, the Marines have an Artillery school there. I was only 18 but still drank in all the bars without being carded. This was in 1987, things have probably changed since then.

During Boot you won't be drinking...and you won't have weekends off either. Believe me - you will be WAY to busy for that. As the schools advance, depending on how well the training is proceding, you may be allowed a limited amount of alcohol and some limited free time. Through all stages of training you will have a curfew...and God help you if you miss it.

OK, now the truth because i have lived it. they are right you can't drink in boot camp that one is a given. But when you are in your school it's just like having a regular job. when you are off work you can drink. now if you are anywhere except California you need to be of legal age. while in Camp Pendelton you can go into any e-club and drink beer. they serve 3.2 beer to anyone who serves. they do this because of the base being so close to Mexico and all you have to do is hop over the border and drink all of the tequila you want. to drink liquor on base you have to be 21. o'yea there is no drinking in the barracks(wink, wink just don't get to loud and drunk) there are no curfews on weekends unless you have duty then it is up to you to get to your duty station on your own

IF, and it's a big one too, you're of legal age AND have a weekend pass, then yes you CAN drink. So long as you're sober when you get back to base when you're done that is. Depending on the circumstances, there may or may NOT be a curfew. When in doubt, ask a C.O. about it. That is of course taking into account that your out of boot camp. If not, well, you won't be drinking anything other than bad coffee, really weird tasting water(thank those little water tabs for that) and the occasional bug in the water out in the field exercise.

of course none in boot camp, and it if you get weekend passes during ait and your 21+ you'll be able to drink in moderation. It all depends on how long your ait is, the shorter ones generally don't get weekend passes, but guys who have long ait's ussually get weekend passes after the first couple weeks of training. Its not worth throwing away your career before its started, so if you're going to drink, atleast be smart about it. Trust me, they'll be plenty of time for partying once you get to your unit. While you're training, thats what you need to focus on is training.
