I have a 68 Mustang and I pulled the 6 cyl. and installed disc brakes and V8 springs. Now I need an engine and tranny (plus rear end) and am unsure of the best combination for horsepower, fuel economy, and maintenance?

A fuel injected boss 302 with a borg warner tranny and good street gears. Or, if you can't do the injection, and want to go less money on the motor, drop in a 289 with a small holley single feed 4 bbl and jet it down, a manual tranny will of course get better mileage, but a ford C4 drops right in and can be had pretty cheep. Again, pick the right gears for the rear end.
Good luck and have fun

Ditto, it particularly is accomplished, yet at vast attempt and price. My sixty 9 CJ Mach1 substitute right into a actual soreness purely to locate all the areas to return it to unique. Engine mounts $50.00, physique mounts $one hundred.00 the two area, oil pan $one hundred.00, pulleys & brackets $4 hundred.00, Fan $one hundred.00... those have been purely a small fraction of the areas required for a automobile that initially cam with the vast FE & already you will locate the price including up... most of the areas have been engine/year/kind specific and there have been no substitutes accessible... i won't be in a position to think of the fee of this modification... you would be lots greater efficient off looking a respectable sixty 8 with a foul engine and swapping it out with the FE... on a similar time as the 390 is an incredible engine for a 40 year previous automobile, it particularly has no place between the newer lighter weight autos... So sure it particularly is technically a probability, yet in accordance with fee on my own i could tremendously advise against it...

I have a 69 Mustang with a 351W and FMX auto. My recommendation would be for a warmed up 302 (cam, intake,4bbl,headers), C-4 or AOD, and 3:55 gears. This would be a great street combination and an easy swap

A 347 stroker with a Performer RPM air-gap intake and 600 Edelbrock carb. A C4 tranny with a 3.50 geared 9" rearend would be powerful and quite streetable.
