We broke a dog we had one time by wearing ourselves out, but it was well worth the trouble. We stayed close and made him think we went back to bed and each and everytime he started barking we would punish him, finally if he would bark we would tell him to be quiet and that is all it took. When he would bark at the right times we rewarded him with attention and a favorite treat. When they are older it is harder to keep them from barking. Good Luck.

Sounds crazy I know, but a spray bottle with water in it!!
My Great Dane and my 13" Beagle both immediately stop barking and lay down when they see that squirt bottle come out. I didn't think it would ever work, but I tried it because I already had a spray bottle, and obviously the water. Low and behold- a miracle! Sometimes if I don't have my spray bottle nearby, I make a psst noise, like the spray bottle does, and she stops. Give it a try!

You teach the dog the "quiet" command. You don't know how to do that, because you and the dog have never been to obedience classes? So now you want to have the dog's voice box surgically removed because you, for whatever reason, did not want to be educated in dog behavior and learn how to teach your dog. It is not too late.

Don't squirt the dog or shock it. They work but only because the dog will now fear you. You want the dog to obey commands because you taught it and it wants to please you.
