My four years old budgie appears bored all the time since his cage-mate died. He is not as active and as curious as before. He has lots of toys but he doesnt spend any time playing with them anymore in the recent months. In comparison to his cage-mate, who died, he is very timid. Before he used to come out of the cage and fly around the room, but now he is often afraid of leaving the cage. Other than getting another bird, what can I do to bring some fun into his life? Is there some kind of game or activity, or some sort of inventive toy that parakeets tend to love?
Thanks.

You might try switching out some of his toys. I would avoid mirrors since he might bond to the mirror and not be interested in working with you after that.

I bought a "birdy buddy" for my Quaker and he loves it. It gives him something to cuddle with and groom when I am not home or can't have him out.

But just changing his toys might help him to feel better. Try hiding his favorite treats in small toys and see if he can find them.

My answer is to buy maybe new toys for your bird and switch them out every so often and to talk sweetly to the bird. Offer your finger as a perch. your bird should come around and want to get out of the cage.

Parakeets love to look at themselves they think its another bird so they talk to themselves. If you don't already have a mirror in his cage either get one and put it in the cage or hold a mirror up to him he'll love it. Music is also a good idea they love to sing when it on.

Put a small mirror in the cage. He would think there is another bird. Also when you feed him in the morning give him a piece of WET lettuce. parakeets love it

Buy a new cage mate. Maybe you can spend more time with him and off Yahoo! Answers. They also love those cute little play jungles/gyms. I suggest you just have fun teaching him tricks and you can bond with him.

provide your parakeets some toys. yet some thing your parakeets in all probability actual need is you to play with them. I actual have parakeets of my very own and if i do no longer provide them unfastened holiday of their cage to play with me they get relatively bored. yet fiddling with you parakeets OUT of their cage is risky. So in case you intend on giving your parakeets some unfastened holiday of their cage indexed under are some tips: a million. positioned down the colorations on your window because of the fact birds are attracted to mild and in the event that they flew right into a window the parakeet might desire to get injured. 2. shop the chook far flung from the kitchen there are 1000's of terrible issues that could ensue there like eating some thing undesirable to your chook or your chook touching fire. 3. final yet no longer least cover your assets till you want poop throughout them!

Does he have a mirror? If not, get a mirror. It's fun to watch them try to interact with that "other bird" in the mirror... eventually, he'll tire of that game, but it might help him for the time being.

Everyone else has the same and right idea. You should set it free. I solely HATE birds as pets. We limit their abilities and take away their lives. They AREN'T domestic. Although they like people. Birds don't have wings for nothing. Your just preventing it. Of course its sad. If you love your bird, you'll do it a favor, give him/her the priviledge of flying once again. (im not talking about "flying around the room") Im talking about going up up in the sky, soaring with the high winds. Ask your nearest zoo where they service birds to be released to the wild.

turn on some music and sing to him or whistle. I used to do that w/ my parakeet and he would start chirping and dance back and fourth on his stick. He liked Beethoven!! You could talk to him, but i think getting another friend for him would really help!!
