Im getting married in about 6 months and im not sure if we want to do a cake for our guest. How or what can we do for dessert that would make it cheaper instead of cake that no one eats. Please help!!

I had a cake that was chocolate on the bottom tier, and white on the middle and spice on the top layer - all three were filled (choc. mousse, lemon cream, and hazelnut) we cut and served it and everyone loved it and they ate it all. Cakes can be very creative and different now. Besides, cutting it and having it for pics and all is nice.

I did know someone who had wedding pies on a 3 layer cake stand - or there's the cupcake thing too.

Congratulations!!

If the only reason you don't want a cake is because it's too expense then don't do a traditional wedding cake. You could choose a sheet cake instead; it's less expensive and goes a long way.

I don't know what your budget is but BJ's, Sam's Club, etc. do very nice work. Standard bakery's really do a number on couples buying traditional wedding cakes==they rip you off.

Or you could have a cookie/miniature pastries tray. If it's a sit down reception each table would be given a small tray for the guests to choose from; at a buffet reception there would be one or two larger trays set up and the guests can pick from that. You could ask family members and/or friends to make a batch of their favorite cookies and then make platters from them. I attended a wedding where this was done and everyone loved it.

Again, I congratulate you and wish you well. One last thing, remember to enjoy your day. It's very easy to let the day get away from you and then when it's over you realize that you never got a chance to simply enjoy it. Laugh, dance, be happy!

Well I cant stand that much cake.. I mean you have the wedding cake... You have the grooms cake.. TO MUCH CAKE...

so for the wedding cake we are doing cheese cakes... and then having a regular cake for the grooms cake...

but you can have whatever dessert you want... There is no golden book of rules taht a wedding is suppose to follow.. That is what gets me so mad when ppl answer questions in here... You have an idea and everyone thinks omg you are doing something different and whoa it is the end of the world.. blah blah blah...

anyway.. yes.. get a small cake for you and your hubby to cut.. then have a different dessert if you want... or just do it complelty different anyway..

I've seen wedding cakes that were made of cheese cake.

I've seen pie towers

I've seen cookies stacked like cake

We are having a cake made of tiramisu. The tiramisu is put into martini glasses and they will be stacked to look like a giant cake. You could probably do this with any dessert if you wanted pudding, creme puffs, whatever.

Don't do icecream cake in any form. It will spend the entire night in the freezer or you will have a wedding puddle.

Cupcakes are becoming very popular and you can put them on cake tiers to resemble a cake. I also recently saw this with hostess cupcakes, ding dongs and twinkies on each tier. You could offer petit fours, different selection of pastries, a chocolate fountain with fruit to dip or cookies. Also you might consider getting your wedding cake at a local supermarket. I did this for my sister's wedding that I planned because it was a very intimate wedding with family only. I opted for chocolate with strawberry filling. It turned out to be one of the best cakes I ever tasted and much better than any wedding cake made by a fancy bakery.

You really don't have to have a cake, it is "your" wedding. I don't know how you will be serving guest, but you could have a desert table with a variety of pastries, and that way your guest could have a choice in what they wanted. You and your husband could feed each other a cupcake instead of the traditional cake slice.

I has sherbet served after dinner. It was light and refreshing, an unexpected. The caterer charged more to have my own cake cut and served than it was to have the sherbet served (way more - like 50 cents for the sherbet and 2.00 for the cake!). I later had the cake cut and everyone could pick whether to have it put on my own supplied plates or placed in to a wax lined cake bag to take home for later (a 'sweets' and cake supply store will carry them - I think they were 50 for $2.50), because I hate when the cake is wrapped in napkins to take home. There was no charge from the caterer for this service.

I have heard of 'rental cakes'. They look like regular cakes but they are foam. Then to cut it, take into a back roon and switch it out with sheet cake. There is a special place for the bride and groom to cut the cake that is real cake, though. I don't know where you get them, though. Happy wedding!

My mom made all of my desserts: we had cheescake, a carrot cake, a chocolate cake, lemon bars and brownies. Also we had some tradtional italian cookies (were italian).
This all cost about $60 just for ingredients. It was super cheap, and the guests were thrilled!

You could have a chocolate fountain, cupcakes, doughnuts, cheesecake bites, banana splits, chocolate dipped strawberries, cookies, whatever you like. There is no rule set in stone it has to be a cake, it has been tradition in the past, but many modern brides are breaking away from that tradition. It is your day, do it your way!
