My parents are both undocumented immigrants. They've worked here for 20 years, are part of the community and pay taxes every year. In defining "The American People" what separates my hard working parents from the rest?

NO. Since they are 'undocumented' meaning they are here illegally, they are not "the American people." What part of illegal doesn't everyone understand?

My ancestors came here from other countries too, over a hundred years ago. They did what they had to do to enter this country and gain citizenship LEGALLY. Why should the LAW apply to some but not others?

Undocumented = Illegal = NOT an American Citizen.
WHY is that so hard for you to comprehend????

And sales tax doesn't count... When they get their green cards & pay $10,000 out of their income a year like I do in taxes & then I'll concede they are pulling their weight.

Papers that say so . Just because someone lives together for 20 years in the same house does not make them legally married ...not to say it is right or wrong either way, it is the law.
I would think that in 20 years they could have gotten some papers pushed through though .

Sorry for the negativity here but people like your parents helped create the problem at hand. What separates them from "The American People" is legality.

Your parents aren't Americans. They are criminals. I'm sorry that our govt didn't deport them earlier. You don't deserve to be an American citizen just because your parents decided to break the law and give birth to you, an anchor baby.

The legal process of naturalization, which has been available to them for many, many years. If they have been here that long, why didn't they avail themselves of the opportunity?

They broke the law, and every day that they don't rectify the situation, they put themselves, you and your siblings in peril. EVERYONE can become a citizen if they take the time and energy to do it.

If they did not have social security cards, they did not pay taxes.

If you study immigration history, it is clearly racist in nature. The first anti-immigration act was to exclude the Chinese, then the Japanese, then the Filipinos.

This was at a time when the Statue of Liberty was welcoming the "huddled masses" from Europe.

The concern of many in the immigration debate is that recent immigrants (both documented and undocumented) are changing the "national character" of the U.S. That is, it's becoming less white.

Last time I looked, we are a nation of immigrants. Just think if native Americans had the same point of view of immigration that some of us have today.

Probably would have worked out better for them.

they are illegals which makes them criminals..

If they are undocumented, how did they pay the taxes ? did they file tax return every year ?.. if so how with being undcumented?

I think you are another liberal pretending to be an illegal!
