The bible explains that Satan had been an angel, apparently a cherub. He used a serpent to cause mankind's sin and establish himself as God's chief enemy.
(Ezekiel 28:13-14) In Eden, the garden of God, you proved to be. ...You are the anointed cherub that is covering, and I have set you. On the holy mountain of God you proved to be.
(Revelation 12:9) the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth
While the term "Lucifer" has come to be understood as a "name" for Satan, it actually is a mere corruption of a Latin term which was applied to the king of Babylon.
(Isaiah 14:4,12) You must raise up this proverbial saying against the king of Babylon and say: “...O how you have fallen from heaven, you shining one [footnote: "Lat., lu′ci·fer, “light bearer.”], son of the dawn!
The number "666" does not apply to Satan directly, but to a certain group of human institutions which serve Satanic purposes.
(Revelation 13:18) it is a man’s number; and its number is six hundred and sixty-six.

The number '666' refers to nothing more or less than MONEY! The book cited below proves this fact leaving absolutely no doubt what John meant by using the infamous number, "Six hundred threescore and six."
The book also explains Satan and Lucifer:
“Lucifer” is mentioned only once in the biblical text of the Old Testament. The name is a translation of “the Son of the Morning,” and is again mentioned in Revelation 1:5 by John. Interestingly, Christ is likewise referred to as the “bright and morning star” (see Revelation 22:16).
Jesus became mortal and received a body of flesh, which “flesh,” or human nature, when revealed according to its true meaning, is synonymous with Lucifer, often referred to as “the devil” or “Satan.
You can read more in the book at the site below. It explains all about Satan and Jesus and whether or not Satan is a bad guy.

Satan is Lucifer, Devil/Satan his profession :D and Lucifer was his name. Why is he the leader of evil ?
There are 9 angel ranks: Angels, Virtues, Powers, Principalities, Dominations, Throne, Cherubim, Seraphim and Archangels.
Lucifer was the highest angel and then he turned against God, and became a demon (Demons are fallen angels).... well i was learned that higher ranked angels that fall are evil spirits.
Demons make objects move etc. and evil spirits talk to you and stuff.
666 - there is alot of explaining to do so you can understand why is this number the number of the beast.
The Beast is a figure in the Book of Revelation, the last book of the New Testament describing an elaborate metaphor. The Beast is an animal with seven heads coming out of a sea who makes himself an enemy of the Christian Church. The identity of the Beast is unclear and Christians have offered many various interpretations as to his identity. The beast is usually regarded as Satan or as a predecessor to the Anti-Christ or the same as the Anti-Christ. But here's what it might mean in Revelation 12-13. The Dragon , who is The Devil, could be the monster of the past. The Beast that comes out of the sea could be a combination of people making it possibly the monster of the present. And the beast that comes out of the Earth, who will have the mark, is going to be the monster of the future.
Got it now ? ;)

Satan was a rebellious angel who disagreed with God's power and as a result was cast out of heaven.
Lucifer seems to be an addition from European mythology. His name means "Light Bringer" and some have compared him to the myth of Prometheus.
Not sure about the true significance of the number 666. I would suggest reading the Torah and Zohar, then speaking to a well trained Rabbi.
The Bible states that Satan will rule the earth until Jesus takes his power from him.
I don't think Satan was really bad. I see him/it as God's quality control manager. It seems that Satan has no power than that which is conveyed upon him by others. Therefore if you can be tempted by him, you are not worthy of heaven. Not really bad.

Lucifer is probably etymologically the oldest name, as it relates to the morning star (a representation of planet Venus). 'Satan' is taken from Judaism, and means 'adversary' or 'accuser' - as Satanael he was meant to have been an archangel of justice. Finally, the Devil is more of a title. All three refer to the same being. It's 666 because the Book of Revelations says so. Why did St. John give this number, hardly anyone knows, but it's close to numerical value of the name of Nero, a Roman Emperor contemporary to St. John. The author didn't like the emperor, as it seems.
