She is 17, of normal weight and eats a balanced diet. I took her to the doctor and he ran lots of hormone tests, including one for thyroid. They did not find anything abnormal. Her scalp looks perfectly normal. Recently, her hair started coming out in handfuls. Should I take her back to the doctor again or to a specialist? If a specialist then what kind?

go to a dermatologist, they know more about this kind of stuff.

is it in patches? Does she have any skin problems that affect the pigmentation ( like vitiligo?) -it could be alopecia and will get worse without treatment.
