Because the people that say it, have no idea what the AF really does. They think that the AF is all pilots. They don't think about the guys working 16 hour shifts to FIX the planes or the OSI agent that's been up for 72 hours dealing with a homicide. It's just plain studpidity. So the AF Basic Training is only 8 weeks. The AF is not a combat branch so they don't hav to be trained for Comabt. they still go through rigorous physical trainign and they all have to pass ont he shooting range. So what if the AF only deplys for 6 months. They also don't get any days off while deployed. So what if they sleep in Air Conditioned tents in Iraq, that just makes them SMART! The AF is more technical and more selective than the other branches. The people that complain about the AF are the ones that couldn't get in!
My husband is on his SIXTH deployment and he has volunteered for every deployment. Don't even try to tell me his job is easier. Even when he is home, he spends at least 12 hours a day on the flightline usually with only ONE day off per week.

Martini-- When I went to tech school in the AF we were up at 330 in the morning doing PT, not sleeping in....
Shamus--- No you do not ride a stationary bike for PT test. The only people who do the bike test are those who are on a profile and can't run for medical reasons. We have pushup/situp/body comp/ run PT test just like all the other branches.
Yes the AF does treat their trooops better but does that make it easier? No, just makes us smarter for joining. Everyone had a choice in what branch they chose. Noone forced anyone to join a particular branch, and last time I checked AF people are getting "in lieu" of taskings for deployments and going with the Army.

I'm in the army and I work with a few guys who did branch transfers from the air force, and they all say that everything about the air force is easier. They also say that they should be getting hardship pay for switching branches lol.

I was in military training with all branches. I was in the Army at the time. When we all talked about our basic training experiences, it was obvious, the Air Force had it easy. At the training school we all attended, the Army would be up doing PT early every morning and the Air Force was still in bed. Only the Marines were up earlier than us. The Navy would play volleyball for their PT.

Experience. Working around the air force. We do field exercises and we are in the field, no showers, no barracks, nothing good, just play war for a month. So I had the opportunity to visit the air force for a couple of days to participate in one of their "field exercises". Tents with A.C., showers, time to sleep, shower and eat.... it was wonderful. That is why. We are not blind. That and they ride stationary bikes for their PFT. And only 6 month deployments.... and they think that because they "work" 12 hours in homeport they are the only branch that does... I could go on... but you get the idea.

Air force Basic Training is only 6 weeks long (at least) / I spent 10 weeks (double recycle) in the 323 - i made it through it./ my philosophy was "i am not allowed to Quit, The TI has to pull me out of the game for not meeting their standards"
My worst thing was i could not March in step with others and you March EVERYWHERE
This website gives you the details (week by week)
