I'm planning to travel to Australia over Christmas and New Year and the cheapest airfare I can find is $2600. I realize it's peak season for traveling but 2 years ago I was able to fly to the Philippines at Christmas for only $2000.

Just remember how much fuel has gone up in two years !

It's killing us all ......

Christmas is also the busiest time to fly anywhere in the world - everyone is doing it and of course the airlines will ALWAYS cash in on it.

ummm look at what you just said " 2 years ago I was able to fly to the Philippines at Christmas for only $2000." That was 2 years ago! Price do go up AND the cost of fuel is always on the rise.

Also... It is longer flight in distance and the cost of taxes to fly into Australia is probably higher as well.

No offense - but get real! How cheap do you want it to be? Nobody like it either but that is the reality of the matter. No matter how cheap it gets - if the price drops, once we are used to that price - human being human - we will complain that it is s expensive yet again.

Also... try looking for packaged deals - there are always good ones around. It's the case of waiting for the right time and grab it quickly.

in terms of airlines, the recommendations are Qantas, United and Air New Zealand (which might require a connection with the aid of Auckland). Qantas usually has the wonderful provider and the charges are all in regards to the comparable. attempt choosing up the ny cases Sunday return and forth section, there at the instant are and back particularly good deals there. From the east coast of Au to Perth, Jetstar has a tendency to have the wonderful fares, inspite of the reality that it particularly is particularly worth checking on the internet web content for Virgin Blue and Qantas as properly. while you're keen to fly at a wierd time, the fares could be lots greater fee-effective. good success!

Because the Australian government restricts direct flights between Australia and the USA to two airlines Qantas and United. They fill their flights in January, so there is no competition. It is a complete scam, and our capitalist government should be ashamed of itself.

It is possible to get cheaper flights via Japan, with JAL, or Taiwan with China Air, or via Auckland on Air NZ. Have you investigated them? Air Canada is going to start a direct Vancouver - Sydney service in November (I think) The flights take a little longer but are a few hundred dollars cheaper (usually).

It is worth $600 between the Phillipines and Australia, its a long flight between them!

So its not that expensive realy!

PinUpGirl, Conecting in Euroupe will make the trip twice as expensive has you have to stop in an asian country and costs the same between Euroupe-Australia thatn US-Australia!

Because it takes like 24 hours to fly there, and someone has to pay for jet fuel. Try a flight that connects to Europe and from there to Australia.
