Maybe it's how a person disagrees.

That is not the case as far as I am concerned.
You can disagree with me on any religious notion that I might have.
I might say the same thing concerning some others who seem to hate all Christians. Just because I am a Christian, I am labeled as being ignorant and intolerant.

Because these religious nut bars are so gullible and display such a lack of any intelligence that they believe nobody should be allowed to question them. Because then they would have to come up with a sensible answer, which is of course impossible for them.

Best let them all believe what they've been taught, without any shred of evidence. Bless 'em.

Religious beliefs often form the ground of a person's being, the set of assumptions upon which that person operates. Any questioning of that set of assumptions can be seen as a threat. People, when threatened respond rather rabidly.

Because religion is a great bastion for those who don't want to think for themselves. If they allow for the possibility that the crap they've been fed is flawed, they get the panicky feeling that they might have to start thinking on a regular basis. So they slap you down just as they've been taught to do. It only makes sense in their bizzarro little inverted world. They don't want you to express your opinion and YOU'RE the one who is intolerant?? ..

In America, we have the right to practice religion freely. Part of Christian faith (and Islamic faith, for that matter) is spreading your religion. This is pretty much unique among religions, most other faiths don't require you go out and actively recruit new donors.

Anyway, usually when they get offended it's because they're counting your refusal to accept that they have the right to spread their religion to every single person they meet as a violation of their right to convert new members.

I am being disrespectful the amount of them that have given me the "art holier than thou" act. Its well earned.
In seriousness some people devote their life to a specific docterine, and when you threaten that system, you hurt them on a level some may never recover from.

Good answer Pagans Wager, you keep doing that.

The two most potent topics in the world - politics and religion. Brings out the worst in some people.

People feel threaten by those who question their religion and will lash out in the manner in which you have mentioned.
Sadly really if you ask me.
