My female cat had babies .. they are 4 weeks and 2 days old.

How long should i wait until i get her fixed? I don't want to get her fixed too soon b/c of complications .. and i don't want to wait too long b/c i'm pretty sure she's going into heat again.
All my males are fixed but she sounds in pain and i want her to be as comfy as possible :)

P.s: All of my cats are inside only. The dad is still around (inside also) .. she got pregnant when i rescued a male cat who was being mistreated at a pet store, we ended up not getting him fixed in time. But all is good .. she has 3 HEALTHY kittens and i'm keeping all 3 :)

Thanx everyone.

Wait to spay the mother cat until all of her kittens are completely weaned, around 7 - 8 weeks old. Neuter the kittens too when they are old enough. Animal shelters neuter puppies and kittens around 6 - 8 weeks old. This is known as pediatric neutering. Five to six months is the most time you should wait to neuter the kittens. I am happy that all of the kittens are healthy. Good luck raising this litter. At least all of your cats live indoors and all of your tom cats are fixed.

I'm not a vet but I would assume you could call a vet's office and they would be able to tell you when an appropriate time after delivering mom can be spayed.

On a personal note...I think what you're doing is wondeful! Good for you for getting mom spayed, keeping them indoors and rescuing another kitty! You have prolonged all of their lives.

And the babies...well words just don't describe! They are so CUTE!

Congrats and good Luck!

Thank you for wanting to get this very important surgery done! A cat can be safely spayed when the kittens are 5-6 weeks old.

Here some resources to spay clinics:

you can have her spayed about 5 weeks after she has her kittens, when the kittens can eat on there on.
