A .zip file can be unzipped by xp and vista without any third party applications. Anything earlier than xp you must have a third party application. You can download zipgenius it's a free utility that will take care of all your .zip .rar .7z compressed files. Get it here:

Good Luck HTH.

Response to Additional Details:

OK. Just so spartan knows the additional details were not posted when I or anyone before me responded so thats why we weren't answering the question fully.

If the file says it's corrupted it means just that, and it cannot be opened or it has no data within it. This can happen if it is a bad download. In this case just retry the download. This also happens a lot when the file you've downloaded contains malware and your antivirus scans and sees that it is malware and quarantines it so when you go to unzip the file it is empty or corrupt. If you know that it is malware but are wanting to use it for some reason say it's a crack file then turn off your anti-virus while you use it. But I hope you know what you're doing. Good Luck with this.

THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT ANSWERING YOUR QUESTION!!!!!

yes, they're all right. but you said your zip file is corrupted or something like that. so of course, when you tried to extract it, there was nothing TO EXTRACT! so go to the website and download this zip file again. now it should not be corrupted. if it still is, its the website's problem.

so anyway, download the file again, now right click it, and click 'Extract files....'
now just follow the instructions.

IF IT STILL SAYS CORRUPTED, THERE"S NO NEED TO DOWNLOAD WINZIP OR ANY OTHER APPLICATION.
contact the website saying that the file that you downloaded is corrupt, please fix it. they will replace the file with a good one.

XP (and probably Vista) has a basic zip program built in. You right click on a file and select send to compressed file. It creates a folder with a zipper. To unzip you open the folder and move the items out. You can actually edit and save directly to the zip files.

Sounds like ya need to delete the file and try downloading it again from the same site or a sister site. i hate it when files get corrupted like that. Any glitch in your system at time of d/l can cause corruption of a file. Good luck!

A Zip archive presents itself as a single file. The contents can not be accessed unless the archive is decompressed. Well known archiving utilities: Winzip, WinRar.

Basic WinZip is built-in to XP and up.

Right-click and choose Compress / Extract, if memory serves.

With Windows XP you should be able to open zip files (most likely you can do so as well with Vista) If you have WinRAR in your computer you can also open zip files (and some other compressed files as well)
