They should start using it. If you can smell them it is a good time. Bring the ones you want to the store with you (if you have any other kids and they don't need to use it yet or already do leave them with someone else) and tell them on the way to the store you are going to get grocerys but you want to have them pick out a deodorant. They may feel weird if you tell them this in the store. When you get to the deodorant ask them to pick one out. Act like it's not a very big deal. I started to use it when I was 9 so it's a good time.

Children mature and develop at different ages. They should use deodorant when it seems as though they need it - if you can smell them, others can as well. It is not uncommon for children to need deodorant in elementary school - our school's office stocks a new supply each year :) It's a good time for a lesson about personal hygiene and growing up. It is always better to hear it from Mom or Dad, rather than someone at school.

Now is fine. Above posters are right that when a child develops odor it's time. If you are really uncomfortable using an actual deodorant try just using baking soda and see if that works. Because they are young yet that may be enough.
(( If you have girls Teen Spirit has a formula called Pink Crush which is made for younger girls. It has a lighter fragrance and is a little milder.)) My boys haven't reached that stage so I don't have any boy recommendations sorry!!

definitely let them use deodorant. I'm 11 yrs old, i play sports and I've used deodorant since i was 9 yrs old, if your not comfortable with them using it, it might not be the best time to start, everyone grows at a different rate.

No that is not to early I bought my 8 year old deodorant. It isn't to early to teach them that our body will smell if we don't do certain things to deter it. My 9 year old doesn't need it yet though. Every kid is different.

My family has a very fast something that makes us smell really bad, with little to no exercise. I grew out of it but my oldest niece (10)and her sister(8) are starting to smell a bit ripe. Make sure you use a strong deoderant that will block out oder completely. Secret is what I've been using for years.
They girls like teen spirit but it only works for so long.
So to answer your question its never to early for deoderant if they start to smell like rotting flesh.

When they smell!! My son was 8 also. I have him use Secret (no scent) because it's mild. Be careful, strong deodorants can cause a rash.

If your child is that young and having odor problems it may be a sign of a medical problem. If the child has underarm hair than it is probably fine. Most children can sweat, but it is the hormones that cause the odor. Also, it can come from diet either way you need to consult your pediatrician. Good luck I hope everything is fine.

Nobody likes a smelly child. Let 'em use it! I'd keep away from antiperspirants though, and just stick to deodorants. Some of the chemicals in antiperspirants cause breast cancer...
