There is so much you can do to select the perfect color.

Find out what your focus wall will be in the room. It should be the wall that attracts the eye first when you walk into the room.

You can then pick out a nice throw rug that has maroon and other colors in it. Select from that what color would go nice with the flooring. Plus the throw rug or Indian carpet will also help tie it all in.

Or

You can select a wallpaper that has maroon colors in it as well. Do one wall in wallpaper and paint the others. this will break up the monotony of the room.

There are all kinds of colors that you never thought of that would work great.

Butter cream yellows to beautiful sage greens go well with maroon.
Don't be afraid to step out and add some spice to the rooms.

Texture also makes a room interesting with different materials and fabrics. But go with those colors and don't over do it with more than 3 colors in the scheme.

I would also say antique white. It's such a bold color (the maroon). You may be able to do some painting techniques to bring texture onto the walls.

Make sure you mix the colors into your decorating accessories somehow.

When you have a lot of color you need a neutral. Off white or beige. Light tan. These cool colors will make the maroon more dramatic and have a calming feeling in the room.

A GOOD WAY TO CHECK IS TO BUY SOME SMALL AMOUNTS AND YOU CAN EITHER BUY A QUART OR BETTER STILL, SOME PAINT COMPANIES LIKE BENJAMIN MOORE SELL SMALL JARS FOR A REASONABLE AMOUNT FOR TESTING.

DON'T BUY CHEAP PAINTS.

I BOUGHT A COUPLE OF POSTER BOARDS TO TRY THE PAINT OUT ON INSTEAD OF THE WALL, BUT EITHER IS FINE.

IT REALLY HELPS TO SEE IT ON A LARGER AREA AND DAYTIME AND NIGHT TIME LIGHT.
