Avoiding Exposure to Chiggers:

Avoid uncultivated areas and heavy vegetation where chiggers are known to exist, if possible.

If this is not possible, then clothing should fit snugly at any possible entry point for the chigger, such as the ankles, wrists, and collar.

Insect repellents may be beneficial in preventing the attachment of chiggers. Spray lightly on possible entry points, as discussed above.

First of all, just relieve the itching. Antihistamines and corticosteroid creams or lotions may be helpful. Then, you really need to go to a doctor or medical clinic. They have the proper means to treat "chiggers". Although they can be treated using the nail polish technique, it is better to go and see a health care specialist.

A friend of mine claims Skin So Soft keeps chiggers away, same as mosquitoes. It couldn't hurt to try it. I always went with the dab of fingernail polish on each one myself. Hated those tiny pests.

Not much you can do once they bite.
But to keep them off you use sulfer. Just fill a nylon or sock up with sulfer and powder your legs before doing field work.

My husband swears by ChiggerEx. It may be a bit hard to find, but our local WalMart usually carries it. He keeps several jars around, as he is VIOLENTLY allergic to the critters. Just follow the directions.
