If they are bad and off, will they smell? They have been air tight since purchase.

I wouldn't risk it. They don't put best before dates on for nothing you know.
And yes, they will smell, but as fish has quite a strong odour anyway are you sure you'll be able to tell the difference?

If they've been frozen, they're probably ok. If they haven't been frozen and don't smell or feel slimy then they're probably ok. Nothing throws a red flag more than smelly and slimy fish. Just make sure you cook them thoroughly (to at LEAST 140 F, with questionable fish you're probably better to go all the way to 160ish) to kill any bugs.

Then again, I'm a bad person to ask...I've had chicken breasts in my fridge for a week past the sell by date, cooked 'em to 165 and had a delicious dinner with no digestive side effects. I did, however, work in the prepared foods department at a grocery store for 6 years so I do know a thing or two about salvaging perishables that are barely out of date. The biggest obstacle to overcome is make sure you WASH YOUR HANDS after every time you touch the fish, wash the utensils thoroughly, and anything else that came in contact to avoid cross contamination.

Either way, happy eating!

yeah...I'm sure they're fine. Did you put it in the freezer??? If not, it's not a good idea to eat it.

And also, smell the fish and see if it's still okay. Make sure you cook it properly. (do not eat it sashimi style)

If you have kept them airtight, and in the fridge, as long as they still look pink, are moist to the touch and not smelling bad, I think they will be fine if you cook them properly.

they will smell if they're off ... they're probably OK, but I'm not sure it's worth the risque .. anyway ... give it a good sniff, and if you have ANY suspicions, take the fish out, and make some stray cat happy

I should think there okay. You'll know there off by the smell and also they lose colour. I hope they are not off for you. Good luck!

If they've been frozen all this time, you're probably OK.

If they've been thawed at any time, pitch them. You'll be out a few dollars (or euros or francs or pesos or whatever you use), but you won't be risking botulism.

If they were frozen, they are fine - defrost & use right away. If they were not; I wouldn't use them, but if a fish EVER smells like fish, I wouldn't eat it - it should NEVER smell fishy - it should smell like seawater.

For ANY kind of fish . . . If it smells fishy it is NOT FIT to eat. It may not make you ill, but don't bother eating it.

No!! Sell by dates aren't always that accurate and can be a ploy to get you to bin food and buy some more. But when it comes to fish you'd be taking a big risk. Please don't do it!!
