It is good to read articles in JAMA as it will keep you updated,however as a premed student, there are lots of priorities you need to keep on top. Many JAMA archived articles can be accessed online plus the internet has variety of articles that will sure keep you abreast. You can spare some time browsing in the internet and if you really want to invest on something that would help you improve medical knowledge, I would rather suggest subscribing MD CONSULT where you will gain an access to various medical textbooks, journals,clinics, images, researches,news and many more. But being a freshman premed student, it seems to be too advance to read on most of them for now. You rather concentrate on giving time of learning extensively the basics such as Anatomy and Physiology,Advanced Biology, Microbiology, Biophysics, Pharmacology and Toxicology, All the Chemistries including Biochemistry and many other related sciences.

I doubt you'd get too much out of it. I'm a doctor, and *I* don't get much out of JAMA (I prefer my specialty journal, Anesthesiology, instead)
I found JAMA to be more applicable to internists.
You might be able to find a doctor to give you some old copies of JAMA, so you can take a look and see what's in there. If you think it would be of benefit to you, then go for it.
At your stage of the game, though, that $169 might be better invested in textbooks of anatomy, pathology and pharmacology. You need to learn some basics before most of what is in JAMA will be of any use.

Your time and resources would be better spent mastering your basic science courses and studying for the MCAT. If you want to keep up with the scientific literature, you can find the latest issues of the major publications at your science library.

How many magazines are you being sent? and How often?
I think that any extra information will help you out in the future so if you've got the money go for it!

I don't think it would be worth it at this point. Your school library will definately alread have a subscription. Besides what a waste of money if you happen to pick another career.

No, it won't make sense to you now, and it won't do you any good. Wait until you get it as part of your student membership in AMA. Even then it won't be particularly useful.
