The idea of faith is a hard thing to define. In a religious sense, faith is taking a belief in something without any grounded evidence for that belief. There are many religious scholars and philosophers who try to tackle the idea of faith and the theory of rationality. I suggest looking up arguments from famous philosophers such as Pojman and Davis on James (Who deal more with the theory of evidentialism).
