My teacher at school told me that women have two more ribs than men. I posted a question about this and got a lot of abuse. People told me it was a stupid idea, which I am prepared to accept. i would just like to hear it from someone with real subject knowledge, qualifications in anatomy or who is working in that field, doctors, morticians, serial killers, whatever, just someone who REALLY knows and whose opinion i can respect when they tell me what a dumbass i am.

however some people can have an extra rib or two

a cervical rib is a supernumerary (extra) rib which arises from the seventh cervical vertebra. It is a congenital abnormality located above the normal first rib. A cervical rib is present in only about 1 in 200 (0.5%) of people; in even rarer cases, an individual may have not one but two cervical ribs. The presence of a cervical rib can cause a form of thoracic outlet syndrome due to compression of the brachial plexus or subclavian artery. Compression of the brachial plexus may be identified by weakness of the muscles around the muscles in the hand, near the base of the thumb. Compression of the subclavian artery is often diagnosed by finding a positive Adson's sign on examination, where the radial pulse in the arm is lost during abduction and external rotation of the shoulder.

I'm not certain where Natural Beauty has been but I've been a witness to enough on-site surgeries and nurse's training that I can say without a doubt that both sexes have exactly the same number of ribs--twelve on each side. The legend that women have an extra set is supposed to come from Genesis when God made Eve from a Adam's rib but in truth, there is no extra set.

Pardon me for stepping in. I have a serious question for you.

Is this teacher working in a fundamentalist Christian school? I ask this because the statement probably based on the bible story that Eve was formed from one of Adam's ribs.

Another question.

Is this teacher a qualified science teacher? I hope you don't find this last question unfair, because, after all YOU asked that only QUALIFIED people answer this question.

Your teacher is a moron. Yes, it is perfectly possible to have extra ribs (cervical ribs in the neck), but it is not only limited to women.

I am looking at my most recent chest x-ray as we speak. I am definitely female (and have the offspring to prove it), and I only have 12 pairs of ribs.

I am not an expert, but as far as I know, women and men have the same number of ribs, normally speaking. It is a myth that women have more than men.

I feel such a lot veg's agree that it's neither common or unnatural. All we all know is it is needless. In this point in time we now have entry to a wide variety of meals in any given grocery store that could provide the entire vitamins and minerals we want with out depending on animal merchandise. All of the ones prehistoric societies did not have the entire meals choices we in contemporary society do. Plus lots of them had been nomadic so they did not develop plants, they ate what they would. Especially in wintry weather. The fact is we don't want animal merchandise anymore, and truthfully do bigger with out them. The handiest factor I ever pay attention from omnivores is excuses "however tribes 1 years in the past ate meat!" "however we now have dog enamel!" "however I figure out I want protein!" "vegan meals is not easy!" "however I want meat (aka bk whoppers) to outlive!" "however however however! however bacon!!!!!!!!!!!!!". There are not any excuses
