A few days ago some guy called my house asking for me (first and last name), I was at work, my mom asked who it was, they said "the police", she asked what it was regarding, they said "police business", she told them I was not home and they made the "huh" sound and said they would call back. That was over 5 days ago.

A week before that I got a call form a police donation assocaition, and said I would contribute some money.

Do you think it was them who called because the did not recieved my payment? I do not think it was a prank, b/c my name and number are unlisted.

Up to this point I still have no clue if it really was the police? or the donation agency I sent money to.

** Does anyone think the police calls people's house without even leaving what name or department they are calling from?

Opinions?

Many police and fire agencies have resorted, in the past, to using professional fund raising companies to obtain donations. Sadly, the organizations take more for profit than what the public service organizations get.

Because they are representing the agencies of which they're working...they use the title of "police" or "firefighter" when addressing the called party.

If you want to donate money to your local police or fire agencies....then take it straight to them...but not over telephone solicitation.

Best wishes.

There is NO WAY a police officer would call your house and ask to talk to you regarding "police business" and not call back or call you at work. The Po Po can find you at your work place if they wanted to.
More than likely it was someone calling to see what your daily routine looked like. I would contact your local PD and inform them of what was going on. It may turn out that someone is "casing" your residence for a possible break in.
I don't mean to get you paranoid, but also call your phone company to check your phone records and see where the call originated from.
Good Luck!

Ask the mysterious person if there is a donation center inside the actual police station itself. If this question makes the caller nervous or they meltdown to rude or unprofessional behavior, simply hang up on them. It's always the wise approach to be safe than not.

Any Police or Fire/EMS department head hiring "professional" telemarketers to reach out via phone to the public should ASAP hand over written resignations. Pro telemarketers rake in far more than what's "donated" to the charity.

not likely...they would leave a number for you to call them back. It would save them a whole lot of time if you called them back than continuing to try to get you on the phone.

It may have been the donation people but how did they get your number? They are usually hired by the police as telemarketers and can get very rude and actually down right mean!

Retarded friends of yours, but more than likely it is a telephone con artist. The police WILL NOT ever call your house like that. Do not ever give any information to anyone calling your house like that. Also, don't give money to anyone over the phone like you said you did. Those people are a scam too. Unless you want your identity stolen you need to stop talking to everyone you do not know on the phone. And, your name and phone number is always listed somewhere.

No, if the police were looking for you they would have asked your mom how they could get ahold of you. Or where you work at. Maybe you should give the local police station a call and see if someone there called you.

If the police called your house and needed to speak to you and you weren't there, they would either leave no message at all and not say who they were, or they would leave a message for you to call. If it's really important, they'll come personally.

It's probably some jerk overusing his new telemarketing position.

Probably...but dont give to police organizations that solicit over the phone. They can be easily faked and you dont know who you're giving your information to.
