Riedel has earn the reputation for being the "best" and many prefer them. Spiegelau glasses are also quite nice.

There are different levels of Riedel glasses (there's even a line sold at Target). The delicacy of the stems is the issue with Riedel. If your friends are the type who would not mind handwashing delicate glasses, go for the Riedel.

If you really want to spend some money and are fancy like that buy Riedel's for them, or if you just wan to give them a nice wine glass to have at dinner or just anywere, get them a Spiegelau, but becareful Riedel's are very fragile and delecit.

The finest wineries and restaurants in Napa Valley use Riedel. Be warned though, as nice as they are, the stems are delicate and can break easily. I watched an experienced buffer break a stem. He said it happens all the time. But that's the preferred brand for wine glasses around here.

I like spiegelau, I have used both...most of their entire line and both glasses come in various lines...the riedel restaurant line is more resistant to chips and thermal shock...but UGLY and inelegant...Riedel is the Rolex of the wine glass world...marketing, marketing, marketing! Not all riedels are hand blown...but, they are priced as if they are....

Riedel are made in Austria, Spiegelau in Germany and there are a few outstanding glasses made in the US......

so it really is up to what you want.... speigelau has a hand blown line as well.

for home use the reidel "O" line is what I would recommend as it does not have a stem to break

Riedel are my preference although both types of glass are crystal [which is what you should be looking for ]. Basically it is down to the beauty, shape and the fineness of the crystal.

i have used both, i prefer riedel. make sure to hand wash them, and be careful, when buffing them. even the restaurant line we use at work is extremely delicate.

Riedel!

Pay caution to how delicate they are.
