My sister just adopted a five-month-old kitten (we think). It was abandoned by its mother at her fiances parents house. Ever since she found it, a couple days ago, it has been shaking pretty badly. Is there something wrong or is this normal?

It is not normal. Take it to the vet for a check-up. It may be something simple, but it may be sick and need some treatment. He needs deworming and flea medication for sure, but it is a good idea to have blood tests done, measure his temperature, check urea and creatinine levels, to see what is wrong. You didn't say if he eats, drinks, pees and poops all right. If he does, it's a good sign, and he may be treated easily. If not, still he may be saved with treatment, so don't delay the trip to the vet. Also, does it look scared? Kittens and cats shake quite badly if they are afraid.

Is it normal if you shake pretty badly? No. It would be best to do as others have mentioned, get it to a vet asap. My kitten got an upper respiratory infection after surgery and I nearly lost him. If it is sick with something like an infection, most often the vet will give it an antibiotic shot + meds to take at home and they show improvement the next day. Make a warm and quiet place for the kitten to rest and be sure to provide water. You may have to dip its paw or try to give it water drops from a dropper. Just do not squirt a lot down its throat because they can possibly drown per a vet.
Just please promise to take it in asap because you have done so much for it already by giving it a home, I'm sure the love you get in return will be well worth it. Good luck and post us an update!

It is probably ill. Usually a five month old kitten is simply abandoned...kittens are weaned at six weeks by their mother and are expected to make it on their own then. A five month old cat is nearly grown and unless it has been horribly abused by humans will want to be your new best friend. Cats don't generally shake for any reason they get really tense and will only shake when they are ill. Sorry, have your friend take it to the shelter and tell them it was abandoned if she can't afford to take it to a vet...she might lose it anyway.

Your kitten needs a check-up. She could be frightened, but if she trembles continuously, you need to know why. And just for the record, a 5-month-old kitten would not necessarily be abandoned by its mother. The mother may have had a second litter and is unable to give this baby the attention she did. You need to have her checked out to see if she is ill or has a disability of some sort, or if she is just terrified. The sooner the better, really. It is absolutely not normal, most especially if it is continuous, and it would be a serious concern if she trembles while she is asleep.

it's not normal if it's shaking severly. I can understand slight shaking due to being nervous of the new enviroment. What you need to due is try holding her constanly (preferably only one person) so it can get used to them. The kitten needs a sense of security, and by holding, hugging, and baby talking to it, it might get comfortable enough to stop shaking. but if this persists for more than two more days, you need to take her into a vet. oh and also, make sure the kitten has a warm nesting area, because they must constantly stay warm. A box and an old blanket should do. Good Luck

My rescued kitten used to shake a lot to when he was cold, I think he only did this when he was about a month or two though. When he starts to shake put him under your shirt and keep him close to your body. Since he was a rescue he may be underweight and not have enough fat on his body that kittens need to keep warm. Has she taken him to the vet yet? If not I would recommend doing that as soon as possible because he could have ear-mites, fleas, a number of different intestinal parasites or many kittens get upper respiratory infections easy. I hope that he is OK.

Take it to the vet. If you can't affordto, then you can't afford to own an animal. They need shots, and tests, and a lot more than just love and food.
It could be dehydrated, or have distemper, or just be cold.
If it is 5 weeks old, the mother abandoned it because it is ill.
If it is 5 months old, the mother quit tending to it about 3 months ago.
You may be able to save the kitten, if you act quickly.
Good luck.

Something is very wrong, and I would take it to the vet immediately. Shaking is either a sign of brain damage, seizures or an advanced disease.

That is usually a sign of nervousness and you can buy a product, Comfort Zone with Feliway for Cats, to minimize stress. Google search it.

it may simply be frightened, does it shake all the time or just sometimes???
either way it needs a vet check to check if it is healthy or notl, it needs injections and also should be neutered at 6 months
