Definately contact the specific facility at which the individual is being held at. It varies greatly from one facility to another on what is allowed or not allowed. Even within the same state it can vary a lot, because each facility sets its own standards and policies. I've worked in a county jail for 2 years now and we house for other county jails that are overcrowded. Everytime we get new individuals the inmates argue with us over what is allowed or not allowed because of what they were allowed or not allowed somewhere else.

Depends on the facility. Staff will open your letter and look at the pics, so the can't be pornographic. Just call the facility that your friend is in and ask them wha you can send. They will answer any questions you have.

sure. it depends on the crime that they are in jail for that varies what you can send them. like if your friend or whatever is in for petty theft you can send them pretty much anything that isn't of course a weapon, drugs, etc. if your friend is in for murder then there is very little that you can send them, like, no pencils, pens, anything with a point or sharp edge, all of that must be provided for the jail.
all items that are sent to people in jail are screened in special tests checking for drugs, weapons or anything that the police do not want in the prisoners hands.
photos and letters are perfecly fine, as long as the photos are not porn, or violence, like, if it is your boyfriend, and you want to send him a photo of you and him together, then sure, they will send it. after a series of intense screening.
so, dont be stupid because they can trace a package back to the person who sent it.

It will depend on the Jail policies. Most will not allow a polaroid picture because of the chemicals in it. Also most will not allow any nude or suggestive pictures either.

Photographs and letters are not normally a problem unless the photographs depict explicit material.

Your best bet is to call the specific jail and inquire there...they may have more strigent rules!

Best wishes.
